Ash's species is nearly extinct, without a dragon of his breed not being seen for almost 230 years. He was found by a human named Ren who he imprinted on. Ren didn't like animals or other people, so wasn't very interested in the little dragon that followed him around. An organization found out about Ash and asked Ren to stay with them to study the behavior of the dragon. Ren and Ash grew very close in time, before Ash grew to big for the ship that he was raised on and was set free.
