Description Recently, there was a spate of warm weather where I live, so I decided to take Boyfriend out for a nice dinner on one of the patio restaurants in Old Town.

We were enjoying ourselves when we were rudely startled by the bullhorn-amplified shrieking of an irrationally angry Lunatic.

Lunatic appeared at first to be a garden-variety Jesus freak (he had signage indicating so), but after going through the usual list of sinful influences such as "Homersexuals" "permissiveness" "Women abandoning their homes" etc. he went onto more exotic satanic influences, such as Fluoride, ESPN, The Japanese, Coca-cola, Environmentalism, and World of Warcraft. Satan is also apparently directly responsible for unemployment, communism, STD's and "The Femminization of Men." After about ten minutes, the ranting had shifted from Jesus to the Illuminati and the CIA.

Random conspiracy ranting is fun to listen to for a while, but Lunatic was actively harassing anyone on the sidewalk to the point where I was wondering if he was going to take a swing at someone, not to mention painfully loud.
About then, a Young woman came around the corner, stopped near our table, sighted the Lunatic and burst into an ecstatic grin. She yanked out her cell phone and speed-dialed someone.

"OMG Lindasy, he's back! quick, get the suits and meet me at old town sqaure! EEEK!"
They young lady promptly disappeared into the restroom and emerged moments later in a neon-green -full-body spandex suit and a pair of deely-boppers (or whatever those antennae things are called) and began sneaking up on Lunatic, slowly winding her way through the throng of horrified onlookers. Then she approached him slowly, hands behind he back, with the posture of an interested party. He faltered slightly at the sight of her, but continued to rant. Every time he looked away, she'd take another step closer, until she less than a hands width away from his face, still not saying a word or touching him.

"I, uh... what do you wan..."
At that moment, two of her compatriots showed up in orange and purple suits, and promptly joined her in standing in close proximity. Orange was easily six feet tall, and seemed to bother Lunatic the most. He stood there for a good eight seconds, quivering and trying to make eye contact, before dropping his equipment and bolting to the thunderous applause of the watching crowd. The Aliens waved goodbye, before orange picked up his megaphone and jogged after him, trying to return it. Failing that, he gave it to the bike cop who had arrived, and the bowed and vanished.

...And that, children, is how peaceful counter-protest is done.

I hate that too. I mean, c'mon, in the Bible Jesus says that we should love others like we love ourselves. That we should always be good to one another... And there comes some crazy jerks saying that "God hates XXXXX" or "Jesus doesn't like XXXXX".
What makes me furious/sad is that they make religious people seem like a bunch of crazy fanatics... Nowadays, we can barely speak of religion to others without seeming like we are trying to shove our believes down other's throats.

To be honest, those rants make me scared. Really, coca-cola? Japanese? What the hell?
Sometimes I see people going on bus starting to speak (read: yell) about Jesus and how he saved them from some addiction or stuff, but usually they are asking for people to help (donation or voluntary work) to some place (help for drug addictis or alcoholics and what not), but sometimes they are the more "fanatic" that just yell about how everyone is wrong and we're going to Hell and all that... Those people really freak me out (and sometimes pisses me off because some people start to think that all religious people are fanatics).

To be honest, I'd loved to see that scene! Really, a peaceful way (better than start an argument).

I don't think the guy understood himself.
He was definitely in the latter you're-all-going-to-hell category.
I feel for my more religious friends when they have to deal with the hate this kind of activity stirs up.

I wish I'd gotten a number. I want to join them.

Interesting thing about Fluoride, it was originally advertised as killing the germs that caused the common cold.

My Business Law teacher told my class that when ever she visited her grandmother as a kid, she'd make her and her siblings drink shot glasses of Fluoride every chance she could.

Eventually, Fluoride was forced by law to chance their slogan to the now more well-known claim of killing the germs that caused bad breath, because their original claim was a lie.

My teacher, on the bright side, was really good at doing shots in college as a result.

...[facepalms] Listerine, I meant Listerine.

Why did I say Fluoride?

Allison-beriyani In reply to Page-Mistress [2013-06-13 06:49:27 +0000 UTC]

I was talking about fluoride.
IDK, If your business law teacher was old enough, she could have had a crazy grandma that tried to makes her drink fluoride.
My great-aunt Liz tried to get my mom to drink kerosine.

They also used to market Cocaine for toothaches.

My great-grandmother was convinced that Canned vegetables were superior to fresh ones, for similarly faulty reasons.
