Description

Creating anything starts with a with a white piece of paper, whether it's the beginning of a novel, a sketch or that idea that has kept you awake at night. The pressure of expectations and what people will think, although it's just your own thoughts of the worst case scenario projected on the people around you.Β To me this is a reflection of the creative process and the expectations that comes with it.

I photographed the model out in a field with the desk, chair and lamp. I photographed the model over 300 times to avoid repetition as much as possible. It was a massive cut out job. Shot in natural light exce

I'd love to hear your thoughts about it, what is the first and second thing that comes to your mind when you see it?

well... it looks like you wondering what else you can do after doing a lot of weird and excellent jobs till the point of achieving so finest quality that you well... see yourself wondering "what else". In some way, you filled the paper but at the same time, the paper was also been erased.

The first thing I associated with this photo was my inner voices judging me. They are keeping me from progress saying "Why try? You'll fail inevitably".

The thing with projecting your own expectations on your surrounding is so true and so well depicted. <3

I can imagine creating this was quite the chore!

The highlights in the guys' hair seem somewhat harsh given that the sky is so dark and cloudy. I would be really curious to see one of the original photos from the shoot to found out whether this is caused by natural lighting or postwork.

Here's my interpretation: when you create art, whether a drawing or a novel or anything else, you're reaching out to the part of other people who think as you do or are at least somewhat sympathetic. Different parts of your mind and worldview respond to different things, so when you create a piece, you're appealing to a particular piece of others' minds that you probably also have. When I write a sci-fi short story, for example, I'm reaching out to people who also like sci-fi, and the theme of the story. So in a sense, I bring together all the people who are like me in that small way.

Good job: creative idea and hard work!
I too worked on a series of photos with clones, but it was about pure introspection (in the creative process and other).
I feel the same questioning when I look at your picture without reading your description.
So it works, even if our sources of thought diverge!

I like this one very much; it is extremely appealing as an image, independently of the thoughts it provokes.Β  The white dandelion seed heads (?) enrich the image and echo the repetition of the model in a way I find very satisfying.Β  My first thought was some variant of "Wow!" which followed my habitual, "Oh good, another alltelleringet post."Β  My second "thought" was a memory of a favourite Charles Adams cartoon, in which one of his characters is sitting in a chair between two mirrors.Β  It takes a few moments to realise that one reflection in the distance has an expression different to (and more demonic than) that of the character in the chair.Β  Maybe your excellent choice to have similar fairly neutral facial expressions on the images of the man, with only one staring at the ground, is what triggered my memory.Β  I understand studies have shown (see latest New Scientist) that a "blank mind" helps inspiration to rise up from the subconscious more effectively than deliberate focus on a issue.Β

And second is: Great job with the model I feel repetition but not the "copy and paste" repetition and I like that some of them are looking around, feels more human

Christ....so accurate
It's a very poignant piece,
but also humorous as well.
It could have easily been moody or made to feel like the "expectations" were overbearing, but instead it has a more pensive and lighthearted atmosphere about it. I really like your vision.Β

That's really neat. The idea is intuitive and communicated well.

I can't believe you didn't just use a green screen. Was the natural lighting that important to you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

alltelleringet In reply to Sushimitzu [2018-08-08 07:29:39 +0000 UTC]

It was partly a coinsidence with the light from the back. It was suppose to be cloudy but when I arrived at the location with the model the sun started to break through. I liked the look it created and decided to shoot against the sun in this way. The main reason to shoot on location is that it always feels slightly more realistic, it’s the small details that make it that way. You can fake it but it’s always harder, especially when you see it printed big and that is how I want my work to be seen at exhibitions. For example, the frame of the desk is chrome and highly reflective, but as it was shot out in the grass the reflection in it becomes realistic automatically
