I have received a lot of comments that imply I'm saying that women who have narrow hips aren't "real". That's not the impression I intended when I titled this image. It's just a saying I've heard about a million times (as I'm sure many others have, too), so I used it for this photograph.

When I originally took this shot in early 2005, I was 17 and wanted to feel good about my body - and thus, this image was born. I was hoping that my confidence would inspire other women who were uncomfortable with their shape to realize that they weren't alone, and that hips are natural - no matter their size.

Of course the human body is a beautiful thing, and so long as the person is healthy, it doesn't matter how wide or narrow their hips are. That was the point I was trying to get across, and for the most part it seemed to translate. Unfortunately, a lot had more to say about the title than anything else - and I'm still hearing about it 7 years later.

So, please, do not comment about the title anymore.
