Description
Okay, so we've gotten over the next great leap with the film, which means I had Sunday morning off, which means I finally had a chance to touch up the red line before I finally ink it.This is one last freehand pass to get everything as close to correct as I can.
This is why I did the transfer in Scarlet Col Erase. I can touch up and sharpen the lines without any big impact to the clean drawing. I found that there were quite a few little things left to do. I adjusted Girl 1's leg. I worked on Girl 2's head, and I lengthened Girl 3's thigh. I also gave her a little more weight since she has more negative space to fill. Anyway, I'll be inking this one.
Next time you see it it should have a black line. I'll hopefully get a start on it tomorrow morning, since mornings are the best time to ink.

I can't wait to see it inked! However... I'm a little confused by girl 3's boobs. They appear to be floating.... even though the wind is pushing against them...

Despite all the lovely curvy bits elsewhere in this picture, I keep being drawn to the face of the girl on the left. I that face!

This really started to make me feel woefully under-accomplished around Tutorial #13...now I feel like a chicken-scratcher on cave walls.

I have a question, if you do this many steps for all your projects how long does it take you to complete one if you were to have a whole day dedicated to said project?

Probably about a day on the drawing part and another on the inking and coloring. If I had unlimited time I could probably bring an average piece to finish in a day to a day or two. This one is going to be unusual in that there are five characters. So this is uncharted territory. Should be interesting.

you can definitely see that you are an animator. spending countless hours redrawing this piece and the millions of minute changes... the craft of an animator's hand

lol, funny how a candle can still be burning when traveling on a broom, I'm guessing there's no wind and they travel at a slowly but decent speed.
Or it's a magic candle that never goes out....

Thank you for these tutorials chris! U made me realize that it's O K to spend lots of time on refining the line art before coloring!

For me, I'm at my best in the morning. I can ink at night or the afternoon, but there is a diminishing return as the day wears on. In the case of California, I also ink in the morning because it hasn't become too hot. Even with air conditioning you can't keep it cool enough in my studio to sit comfortably after noon. I noticed the weather just got cooler last night - there should be no trouble inking for the next week or so.

I'm loving watching this come together! Silly question perhaps... But why is it you use red pencil for this stage?

I'm obviously not Chris, so I don't know if that's why *he* uses a red pencil, but red (or cyan) lines can be erased with a simple photoshop adjustment. So you don't have to actually go over your inked drawing with an eraser when you're done.

Your tutorials are very impressive indeed Chris! You do have a gift for round flowing line work.
But is girl #2 wearing a body suit or seperate clothes? If she's wearing footware, will she have line around her thigh, shin or ankle to indicate a left boot or shoe?
Either way, I'll bet It'll turn out great! Take care.
