I'll list every step below.

STEP 1 Draw a simple circle with the pen brush, using a dark color.

STEP 2 Draw another circle in another layer (above the base circle's layer) to represent where the light's coming from, then use clipping group in order to show what you drew only on the base circle. Use the gaussian blur tool to blend the lighter circle into the darker one better. Then mash all the layers into one.

STEP 3 Add a little bit of shading using slightly darker colors, but do not use it on the top as the light source comes from above. Mash the layers.

STEP 4 Create a new layer on top of everything else and put it on luminosity. Using pure red, select the airbrush tool and color along where the two colors split. Then clip the layer to the base color and mash 'em all.

STEP 5 Make a new layer on luminosity and, using the airbrush tool, select a lighter color to put a brighter light on top to show where the light is coming from. Clip and mash.

STEP 6 Create a layer on luminosity, use pure red again and color OUTSIDE the ball, for a glow effect. Plus, make another layer on top of the circle and select a pale blue, use the airbrush tool and lightly color the lower part. Mash and profit.
