Description
Wanted to do a simple portrait piece instead of going for an all out action illustration for a couple of reasons. The main one being that I feel like I do a good sketch but then my lines and colours don't seem to match with each other and looks not to what I feel like I should be doing, maybe it is just me being picky or too uptight about my work but I feel how I feel.ΒI plan on doing some colour and lighting studies that will be able to perhaps help me finish my Kantai Collection fanarts of Bismarck and Hibiki which I kind of just dropped for the said reasons.
This piece however is what I would consider my best at the moment and it has actually boosted my confidence a lot when I saw the finished piece compared to other things I have done.

I needed to see this, this is visual poetry. The light, the color, dark but vibrant. Pensiveness, brooding, melancholy, a dark shadow floating over a bright spirit.Β
What do I see? A child that misses her mothers warm embrace, and the closest thing that she has is cold steel and a smoking barrel.Β

It's hard to comprehend the psychology, but a child needs a mother, and even if there is a sibling, without the experienced hand of mother figure it doesn't work out the same, the child still longs for her mother. Which is why Yang is still chasing ghosts to find her mom.Β

No man, I get it. My comment was a mostly said in jest. But to be fair one of Yang's most overlooked (and best) qualities is her caring maternal side, so it's pretty much guaranteed that Yang stepped in to help as much as she could. And while I agree that it's not the same as having her actual mother I also feel that it's just not in Ruby's character to ignore or not appreciate Yang's efforts. And it would be a disservice to Yang to say that her efforts wouldn't have helped.
Basically, while Ruby would still feel the turmoil of losing her mother (hence "Red Like Roses Part II") she's also not alone (like the song "Gold").

You know, while I love reading text, it's so friggin hard to read the tone. -_-
But you are ABSOLUTELY right in that regards, Yang does have a motherly quality about her that is seen mostly between Ruby, and then a bit for Blake in season II. I hope more of that is shown and her party animal facade dissolves a little bit.Β
