History:
He started his life as an ordinary rat in Japan who found his way into the Hamato Clan. This is where he met Hamato Yoshi who was a member alongside Oroku Saki, who was like a brother to him. When he was discovered, his life was spared by Tang Shen, the adopted daughter of Hamato Clan, who took him as a pet. Like its previous versions, Tang Shen became tragically caught up between Hamato Yoshi and a jealous rival, this time Yukio Mashimi, a childhood friend of Yoshi's. The three of them eventually joined the Mystics and became Guardians of the "Relic" (The Holy Grail or the Allspark fragment). But Mashimi's jealousy of Yoshi, both for his advancement as a Guardian, and the love of Tang Shen, led him to kidnap Shen and betray the Mystics' location to The Rival Leader. Yoshi killed Mashimi in revenge and Saki would learn his past, allowing his rage to take over and destroy the Hamato Clans. One night, he came to Yoshi's home armed with razor sharp claw weapons and challenged him to a duel to the death. Yoshi accepted, and the two tore through Yoshi's home, catching it on fire. Just as Saki was about to kill Yoshi, Shen interfered and took the fatal blow for herself. Yoshi barely escaped without knowing the fate of his baby daughter Miwa, assuming her to also be seemingly killed, but in reality Shredder secretly abducted her and raised as his daughter, Karai.

Devastated, Yoshi gave up his original name and left Japan in disgrace for an eternal exile. Under the alias "Splinter", he arrived in the USA, taking Tang Shen's pet with him, and attempted to start a new life in New York City. Whilst in New York, Splinter lived peacefully while Tang shen's pet began to learn ninjutsu by mimicking Splinter as he trained. One fateful night, he bought a home with four baby turtles at the local pet store. However, he would be tracked down by The Shredder, who tried to force him to reveal the Mystic location. Splinter escaped with only his pet and four turtles. After escaping from the Shredder, he sought refuge in the dark alleys before eventually relocating into the sewers. In the sewer, Splinter saw a strange man exchanging a strange canister of green-glowing slimy ooze with another, he stepped onto a passing sewer rat that gave away his position. A fight ensued, and while Splinter was able to defeat the men, only for the Shredder to stabbed him in the back; murdering him and telling him that his daughter is alive before ordering the footsoldier to burn the body, then bury it.

After witnessing his master's death, Splinter escaped before the canister broke and poured out the oozes before mutating instantly. As his pet rat became a large size and gained intelligence, the turtles were turned into anthropomorphic. Once they had fully mutated, he named himself in his honor as Hamato Splinter and taught his Turtle sons the ways of honor and the path to ninjutsu. When they turned fifteen, Splinter, though reluctant, allowed them to leave the lair for the very first time.
