The morning of the cross country competition, Martia had helped Dani doll herself up. She donned subtle, bee-themed makeup, with yellow lips and eyeshadow. Of course no one would really see it, but she figured that if Svelsa got some cute bee-themed tack, why couldn't she wear some bee-themed makeup, too?
As Dani and Svelsa rode across the cross country course at a quick canter, Dani realized just how much she actually liked cross country. Since she was small, only around six or seven, she'd been taking lessons for show jumping. She'd even tried some dressage when she was eleven. But she had never really thought that much about cross country. She was pleasantly surprised, however. The subtle chirping of birds, the soft breeze blowing through her hair, and the soft, rhythmic beating of Svelsa's hooves against the packed dirt. It all added together to make a serene, calming experience. But there was the competition, too, which Dani was notorious for loving. Maybe after this, she'd look into doing cross country more often.
The two arrived at the river just in time for Dani to begin to urge Svelsa faster. The mare plowed through the water, taking a flying leap over the kayak jump. The cool spray of water, something that would usually annoy Dani, actually calmed her now. It was refreshing, seeing as the day was fairly warm. Especially out in nature like the cross country course was.
