Description
UTA SSRUnited Terran Alliance Standard Small Rifle
This is the first prototype design for the UTA SSR. The rifle itself is built by strong yet light material, allowing it to preserve not only as a gun, but partly armor. The rifle is constructed to normally be carried by a small or medium armored UTA trooper. It is designed spesifically for planetarial missions, but is fully operational in space. The rifle was approved by the UTA in 2630, and has been used for 5 years with slight modifications. The image above showing the frst prototype might be misleading, the design has been altered aerodynamic.
The targeting system is all optical. A camera is mounted on the top which gives an up to 15x image of where you point the gun. The camera is connected to the trooper visor so you can always see where the gun is pointing.
Measurements:
Lenght: 1105 mm
Barrel: 1000 mm
Weight: 3500 grams
Caliber: 9.0 x 50.5 mm)
Operation: Short Recoil, Automatic
Magazine capacity: 125
Max Effective Range: 750 meters (Earth gravty)

First apperance in novel
Chapter 4; James grabs gun from UTA trooper chasing him:
A grenade flew through the air and in to the elevator. The doors of the elevator closed and an explosion followed. Within the explosion James used the little time he knew he would get to run from his cover and out to the sub city middle pathway. As he got out from the cover a trooper saw him and so he started to fire. No matter how advanced targeting systems was nobody hit James. He took the opportunity to jump kick one of the troopers and grab his gun mid air. Then he forced his way further out in the pathway.

Cool design, and believable to boot. side flash may mess up the persons LOS, but other than that, very good looking.

That's awesome. Seriously.
Does it fire conventional bullets or something a little more sci-fi?

You are very imaginative to invent such a design, but maybe is it too... shining? i mean, it could look more 'metallic' i think... very cool stuff though!!
