Oh god those rocks took FOREVER. I had to force myself to get them mostly finished before I moved on to the fun bits or I would never have given them attention. I did the general values first, ignoring texture, and then grabbed a rock texture from here: [link] They're my absolute favorite site for textures, I used them all the time. Then I just masked that so it was only over the rocks and voila. It looks like rock. It looks too fitted and perfect for what I was going for originally, which was a cave-in, and I could have made more of an effort to have them looking random, but jflkjslkjsd I was so done with this piece. I'm still not sure I'm happy with it, I may fuss with his face again to get rid of the chronic too-long-nose problem I have, I don't know.

I am pleased with the rocks and lighting, though. XD

Actually his nose is just fine. His eyes are too close together and forehead a little short though.

Those are shiny textures! I don't use texture overlays as often as I should...I normally create photoshop brushes to make a desired effect instead.

I have a couple brushes I use for texture and so on, but I tend to do only minimal tweaking to customize things, so more often I'm grabbing textures from other places-- almost always that website, since they have just about everything I could possibly want.

And you're right about his face, of course. I probably won't bother messing with it at this point-- I worked on this damn thing for so long that I can barely stand to look at it anymore. XD

I entirely know the feeling. In fact...I remember having the same situation with my 'Trapped' deviation. Heh, we both have a deviation with the same title now!
