Description Atmosphere experiment, i came up with something whilst taking a break from coding and collabing and came up with a nice atmosphere... so i decided to mould it further and simulate a nuclear blast kinda thing.

it turned out kinda well, i was considering having water only, except it felt rather empty, so i added a small barren terrain with a dead feel. Just adding to the feel.

So yeah, terragen only except for photoshop file changing.

Your feedback means a lot (it's a nice wallie for desktop too )
(sorry for crap title)
12hours to render (stupid water)

Important note

- this is not meant to be a "realistic" image, so any comment asking me to make a certain aspect more realistic will be frowned upon, and thou shalst be smote.

When I glanced at this, I thought it was real and you had used a fish eye lens.. Then I took a better look.. (causeiwaslike'woahwherethefuckisthat!?')

I love the colors, the yellow turns my stomach a bit, "Somethings not quite right." And blahblah.

Awesome.

water is flawless - except a little bit toward the mountains - love the sky and the mountains - looks like a photo from the thumb - wish there was a way to haze the mountain outlines just a bit - it would add to the realism....

That is perhaps the coolest water I have ever seen. Save the water file immediately, and send it to me. GAH!

It's Terragen - it's not real. But it is photorealistic, isn't it?

yes its nice, but your sharp water reflections can kind of ruin the water but still good! :abducted:

Its a good composition.

The water looks somewhat solid. And I think you could have done a better job with the lighting, but its a good attempt. Keep practicing

very nice... ^_^ I like this latest run of terragen stuff you've been doing lately! it's really interesting to me how it looks like there's a second layer of water right underneath the clouds.... it also looks like there are much grander mountains above the water layer... absolutely beautiful, alyn. ^_^ the clouds looked kinda stretched to me at first, but after noticing these non-existant mountains, I really like it. ^_^

Ooh, golden sky and water. And the clouds are great... Reminds me of this one sunset where I lived. It was just after a thunderstorm, and it turned the still-sky-covering clouds orange. :3

It's nice with dark and yellow combined. Go for it. Don't forget to check m new deviation tomorrow, haven't published anything for a while now, so. well, check it out tomorrow around the same time

redknight-moi [2004-03-15 15:03:33 +0000 UTC]

Nicely done, I would have personally turned down the reflection on the water as the water seems to have more sun light than the sky does. Over all nicely done, and yes, the water takes FOREVER to render...

I like the water. It's silly, but the texture reminds me, of all things, of the texture of aluminum foil after you wrinkle it up and then smooth it out. Hmm.

mate mate mate....its not realisitic enough...hahaha just joking
yeah this is another top effort..love the atmosphere effect- the fact that this huge bright yellow light is shining through it but yet u cant actually see the definitions of the sun looks cool
the only thing i think looks a little stange is the lack of effect the light has on the right side of the image...the source doesnt look low enought to be blocked by those mountains (and the edge of the water in the midde is still reflecting light) but the terrain on the right is in shadow....but then again thats how terragen depicted the light didnt it
another job well done mate

memod [2004-03-14 20:55:48 +0000 UTC]

hm, don't know, the scene itself is excellent, the colors and the feeling are great, but the water turned out bad, I know it's sort of normal for terragen to make steppy edges and so, but here it's really bad. don't know if some smudging in ps with a small hard brush would help...and did you mirror the water or why is the heaven looking so weird?
sorry...I think this piece had a good start, but in my opinion it still needs work.

geez... about a million comments saying 'ooh beautiful' and 'awesome work'...

i really gotta agree with ya on the atmosphere, its looking pretty darn cool,

i reckon the 'epicentre' of said blast should be slightly lower down or photoshopped so it touches down on the horizon too, just to give it that proper nuke kinda feel.

the fade to black on the right... hmm, kinda throws the scene off centre, maybe it should be cropped out to a square picture.

a few render niggles with the water towards the background, but i know thats cos of resolution and can't be helped.

Otherwise another fine display of your unquestionable skills Just trying to be constructive for once lol

Is that Terragen that made it fade to black on the right side ? or is that made in Photoshop?

Alyn was one of the first artists I stumbled across when I joined DA, and as of yet, I've not been disappointed by any of his pictures. This is no exception. I know he said he'd smite anyone that demands more realism, but I think that dead trees, or just their silhouettes, airbrushed on the top of the mount or near the shore would add immeasurably to the piece.

It's very nice though, once again a fantastic job by Alyn.
