Description
No, I don't think pomegranates can float on water. But hey, if a person can walk on water?*EDIT: Yes, pomegranates can indeed float on water. Mersault had clarified it for me. Now, can anyone find out if people can walk on water?
I hope it feels like June to you folks. I had a hard time figuring out how depict the Month of June for augustc4 's Calendar Collaboration. I picked this particular month simply because I was born on this month. If it doesn't feel like June, just tell me what you feel like anyways. I'm always interested to know.
Usually I'd set the resolution at something around 1024*768 but for presentation purposes I made this one a 2 screen scroll.
Tools and stuff used:
- Aging PC with loads of spywares in it
- Graphire3 Tablet
- openCanvas 3.03 (go figure)
I actually finished this in the 3 weeks that I have set for myself!
oC3 event file available on request.
BTW, if you haven't watched yet then you must have missed a heck load of good stuff

Wow, what excellent colouring technique. I love the concept too and, well, this whole picture, really - it's just beautiful! All that seems rather off to me, is her face. It looks volumeless, flat. The hair looks a bit rushed, too, but it may be because of the lack of face features. Otherwise, this is a lovely, lovely piece of art.

Much thanks for the
You may be right about face and hair, looking back at this old piece now I keep thinking I can make the figure look much better. Back then however, I'd only wanted to try and see if I can make the scene

I love the way you made the lotus leaves look like a sort of collage, like papers pasted on top of each other, and the relection of the sky and the lady. Good job! But her hair really bugs me, it looks pretty old fashioned and stiff to me.

Mwahaha, I loved the 80's. That's why her hair's like that
Thanks for the comment!

I really like this one!!! You've done some really nice photos and deviations lately! I'm sorry I haven't been around much, I'm buried in the task of photographing, researching and writing descriptions of a buch of antiques and I don't see an end to it any time soon but I'ill be back someday! I need to get a lot of these old things listed for sale on my collectibles website [link] , it seems like a never ending job but I have to do it. At least its not boring!
Keep up the fine work amade! I always enjoy seeing your new creations! , Brent

Sorry, it isn't. I don't have a print account nor am I a subscriber. The print would be at slightly smaller than A4 at 150 dpi anyway, so it's not really quite print quality unless it's downgraded to post-card size.
I appreciate your interest in buying a print of it.

The...legs...throw me completely off.
I stared at the legs for at least 5 minutes trying to figure out how they can be pointing in one direction and the head in one direction...and still the torso in another.
Great colors!

I had the pose posed by a real person, though there may have been some small differences. What I had in mind was that the lady is walking on the water towards the top of the composition and at one point the body is turned slightly sideways and the head turns to the left to look back across the composition. It looks pretty feasible.
Thanks for the crits and comment!

June in the northern hemisphere, anyway!
I love the background, the plants, her clothes... I think the only thing that causes me some problems is her hair for some reason, and even then, I think maybe it's because the style doesn't do anything for me rather than any problem with what you did per se!

Definitely represents June. I read some of the other comments and I don't have a problem with the root thingys. I really like the pomegranite; it completes the composition. I like her clothes, but her face is a bit funky. It's not that it's too unrealistic; it just looks a bit flat...kind of like a cube...and her expression is odd. The hair is a bit 80's, but that's just my preference. I find it interesting how you covered the reflection of her face with a lilypad.

I didn't cover any part of her reflection at first. I drew the whole reflection with details on a separate layer before cropping bits off it and reworking certain areas to match the water's surface. I'm glad the face did get covered by the lilypad (which were all on a separate layer) because it may have affected the composition's focal point and direction a bit. If not, I would've just added another pad over her face anyway
You're very right about the hair. I just realized that it may have been from the hours of 80's music I listened to while completing this piece.

How blue the sky is!~
Though I do suggest making the woman's face bigger, her large hair looks awkward.

Actually, I think this definately feels like June in my opinion. It seems a warm, quiet, and peaceful day. There are still the hints of May showers in the reflections of the clouds, a hint of early spring. Plus, waterlilies don't bloom that early. The water looks cool (not cold) and inviting

I'm starting to think I got really lucky with how this piece turned out. Living near the equator makes it hard for me to visualise what June feels like to the global audience. Even after doing some research I was still pretty much in doubt of how I should portray it. Thank you very much for elaborating more on this piece!

Great piece. Athough it leaves me wanting to see more definition in her hair curls.
The lilly pads look nice, and I love the clouds. ^_^
By the way. I read in your descript about the spyware. Check out Adaware personal edition by Lavasoft. [link]
