Description
Sparky, The Sensational AssistantReal Name: Sparkington J. Northrup
Powers: Enhanced Combat & Athleticism
Equipment:
- Wing Ring - An item held in the ring-bearing hand may become enchanted so as to hover and attack the wielderβs enemies, and may be loosed to act on its own for around 6 minutes. If not returned to the wielderβs grasp at the end of this time, it falls to the ground inactive; once the wielder has held onto the object for one minute, it may move again.
- Jeepers Juice - When the drinker of this potion is fighting a monster, the drinker's speed, dexterity and agility are amplified temporarily, allowing the drinker to more easily out run and out maneuver the monster.
- Recursive Headband of Stamina - The wearer of this headband becomes highly resistant to the build-up of lactic acid in their muscles, allowing them to be physically active for considerably longer periods of time than the average member of the user's species.
- Beetle Man's Wireless Phone - The first, miniature wireless phone ever invented from one world's 1940s that was used by the superhero, Beetle Man. A surprisingly advanced piece of tech, this phone can actually be used similarly to how wireless phones of the 21st century are used but without the use of a modern wireless router. This device also taps into landlines to make calls to houses that only have landlines. Though with the Beetle Man's phone, it can actually connect to Sargasso's Internet like a modern smart phone. However it is still rather primitive compared to a modern smartphone and only has the bare essentials built in.
First Appearance: Blue Beetle #14 (Sept. 1942)
Rebooted Origin
(---"Sparkington J. Northrup was an American orphan who was adopted and raised by Lord Wellington of Suppleshire, England. He became Beetle Man's boy sidekick after he was sent back to America on his adopted father's behest. To prevent his son from being captured by Nazi forces and be used as leverage against Wellington. He wore a simplified version of Beetle's costume and called himself "Sparky."
However, their time as crime-fighting partners would not last. As some time after saving a munitions plant from getting blown apart by a villain called The Mimic, both Beetle Man and Sparky ended up separated, mostly against their own will. One day both Beetle Man and Sparky were sent out by the US Government to the Central European kingdom of Swisslakia, which had been overtaken by Nazi forces and is actually using an ancient weapon unearthed in the country that was supposedly built by Nostradamus. This weapon is actually a gigantic Golem-like statue that is almost as tall as the Empire State Building which the Nazis have taken control of along with having built a separate but equally massive mechanical dinosaur called Hitler's Rex .
According to the intel collected, Hitler chose Swisslakia to be used as the base for his production of giant war machines inspired by The Giant.
Both Beetle Man and Sparky met up with the resistance group that have tried to retake their nation. This group was led by the former Boy King of the kingdom, David of Swisslakia . Their plan was to retake The Giant, as David was the rightful heir to it's power and can retake control of it from it's German controllers, and sabotage the newly built factories that are putting together an entire battalion of Giant Warbots that will be sent out to all across Europe.
Their plan was for Beetle Man, Sparky and David to infiltrate the main base where David's Giant and Hitler's Rex was being kept while at the same time, a squad of resistance fighters separately infiltrate the base and plant explosives to destroy it.
However this plan hit a snag as Beetle Man had to separate from Sparky and David due to them being caught by a patrol in the main hangar where the Giant was kept, so Beetle Man had to fight off the soldiers while Sparky and David ran to The Giant. But the head of this base, Nazi scientist, Dr. Crane , activated The Giant and commanded it to smash the intruders, not caring that his own soldiers were in the way as many of then ended up getting crushed under the debris caused by The Giant's rampage through the hangar.
Fortunately, Sparky and David managed to climb up the Giant and reached it's ear, where David commanded the Giant to cease it's attack, stopping it from smashing Beetle Man with it's massive fist. And since David is the true heir to The Giant, this override Dr. Crane's control and David now can command The Giant himself.
Enraged at this turn of events, Dr. Crane activated Hitler's Rex and made it attack The Giant. As the two giant machines fought, Beetle Man made his way towards Dr. Crane.
Though as The Giant and Hitler's Rex fought with Sparky & David on The Giant's shoulder, one blow from The Rex knocked The Giant back, causing both Sparky and David to become off balance. David managed to regain his footing but Sparky fell off, falling straight to the concrete and jagged debris below with The Giant being too preoccupied with the Rex to be able to catch Sparky in time.
However, before Sparky made contact with the ground, a rainbow-colored portal appeared beneath him with the boy sidekick falling through it before the portal closed.
Sparkington fell through the tunnel for several seconds before he fell unconscious. He woke up what felt like hours later, in what looks a hospital, but it looked more modern. He turned his head to look out the window next to him, seeing a sky that looked like a collage of nebulae and the sun hanging overhead."---)
So yeah, The Blue Beetle's first sidekick is now part of Sargasso, The Ever-Changing City . I mean as some of you might know, Sparky only appeared in a few issues of Holyoke's Blue Beetle series before being replaced by Spunky . And it was never explained whatever happened to Sparky before Spunky came along. So I made a scenario that could work as Sparky's last appearance in Blue Beetle's series with The Boy King added to the mix.
As for what became of Sparky while in The Ever-Changing City, he ended up under the care of the hero known as The Invader and became his sidekick. The Bucky Barnes to The Invader's Captain America.
Though The Phantom Beetle is also a part of Sargasso, but The Beetle, knowing that Sparky was the partner of someone like him and was capable of defending himself, he felt that he wasn't capable of taking care of the boy. However he did upgrade the wireless phone that Beetle Man gave to Sparky before that mission to Swisslakia so as to help better connect with the more advanced tech found in The Ever-Changing City, especially Sargasso's Internet.
Sparky's time with the teenage heroes of the city was interesting to say the least, as Sparky had to learn about the various forms of slang and lingo these teens used since they came from different time periods and realities. Though it felt kinda awkward that out of many of the teen heroes in the city, Sparky was one of the few that didn't have any powers at all. However Sparky has proven time and again that he is more then capable of fighting the strange criminals that can be found in this new reality.
This character was made using Hero Machine 3.
This version of Holyoke's Sparky is an open source character created specifically for use by anyone. Feel free to use it any way you wish. You must also give creator credit.
