Description After doing so much traditional artwork, I wanted to paint digitally again.
So have a painting of my OC Grace, in her demonic form.
She's a fire type demon.Β

I tried to practice painting on one layer because I normally work with a lot of layers and that gets a little annoying/confusing at times.
Also One-Layer-Painting is closer to real painting (with acrylics or oils etc.), wich I would really like to try out

I love her smirk. One critique though would to be not to use orange and pink together, it makes either her skin or flames look out of place. Love the diamond shapes around the eyes and their asymmetry though!

Thank you
Yeah, orange and pink can look weird together, I'll keep that in mind ^^

Sehr schΓΆnes Bild!

(Was mich sehr freut xd)

Das stimmt, manche Leute nehmen Kritik nicht so gut an.
Aber ich finde, man kann sich nicht verbessern ohne seine Fehler zu finden und manchmal bemerkt man sie nun mal nicht selbst ^^

Thanks.
I'm still experimenting with it, trying what suits her best and looks good.

Maybe this one looks more (if not just slightly) menacing than the other Graces, possibly with the rest of your gallery also.

It probably does. I try to get more feeling into my pictures, so I guess it worked.

Think this submission matches her personality better? I got the idea your other Demoness pic looked more seductive.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-01 07:06:33 +0000 UTC]

I think both of them match her personality equally well.
It just depends on her mood, whether she'd play with someone or just beat them up.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-01 07:08:33 +0000 UTC]

What is her personality like by the way?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-01 07:18:33 +0000 UTC]

She's confident, playful, has sudden moodswings, is quite selfish/self-centered.
Basically, she does whatever she wants, whenever she feels like it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-01 07:23:36 +0000 UTC]

She'd be a nice anime girl then. Hmm... maybe my splice of her wasn't so inaccurate after all...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-01 12:17:01 +0000 UTC]

Why'd you think it wasn't accurate?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-01 17:06:27 +0000 UTC]

I maybe not so much "inaccurate" as much as I didn't know much about her besides her physiology, and the personality expressed in my version looked different than the first Demoness pic you uploaded. And certainly different than the facial expression in this one. But now I know her personality and can say I somehow got lucky with the facial expression I gave her (confident, playful).

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-02 09:28:02 +0000 UTC]

Well, the way you drew her definitely fits her personality.

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-02 19:21:13 +0000 UTC]

What will you work on next, after you finished?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-02 19:33:20 +0000 UTC]

Next prizes or the next set of comic. Comic has 2 panels (3 characters) left, which might make things more drawn out than I'd like.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 13:35:01 +0000 UTC]

So what will you be working on?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 17:23:57 +0000 UTC]

I think immediately I'll work on the comic page. But if I decide to stream then I'm likely to work on aliceofbunny's other prize since hokimaru looks to be the least active of the 2 right now.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 17:34:24 +0000 UTC]

What do you think, how long will the comic page take you?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 17:52:16 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't know, but hopefully before the end of the month. They are 3 characters, but I know each individually are less complex than Grace by a lot.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 18:17:32 +0000 UTC]

Did you ever think of using a simpler shading style, like cell shading?
That would maybe speed up the process.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 18:37:15 +0000 UTC]

My shading style is mostly using cell shading, and the blurring is just to smooth things out since I have an unsteady hand. It actually takes a longer time to put down the cell shading than for me to smooth it, but the most difficult part actually is the lining. Unsteady hand after all.

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 18:47:52 +0000 UTC]

I see... then maybe use some linework tools if you aren't already? Some programs have good ones.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 18:56:37 +0000 UTC]

There are a number of "cheats" I use to speed things up or to improve accuracy. You might already know I do my lines on paper first then trace. Copying and transformations help greatly too, especially if you can exploit symmetry. This next batch especially I hope to detail how I made it because if I were to work normally, I shouldn't actually be this far; I should only be 1/4 way done. But I'm now almost done relatively.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 18:58:17 +0000 UTC]

Maybe it would have been easier if you did your comic traditionally, only using black to ink?
I got the impression that you work better traditionally?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 19:45:57 +0000 UTC]

I work faster traditionally, but not necessarily better because there are things I can do much better digitally besides quality, such as action and making items clearer.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-03 19:50:03 +0000 UTC]

Before you mentioned having trouble with smooth lines, maybe you could use a stabilizer?Β
I don't know if your program has one.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-03 20:14:48 +0000 UTC]

I always use a stabilizer but that can only go so far.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-04 06:18:30 +0000 UTC]

Hm, I only know SAI's stabilizer, and that one's pretty good, but all programs are different.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-04 07:18:56 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I find that my lines are so out of whack the stabilizer is force to turn my curve into more or less a bent line.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-04 14:33:55 +0000 UTC]

Then I guess you'll just have to practice.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-04 19:21:43 +0000 UTC]

Yep. Hopefully I'll be able to use my other hand for digital lineart one day.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-05 05:15:11 +0000 UTC]

Maybe it would be easier to concentrate on one hand first, before you train the other?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-05 05:22:49 +0000 UTC]

I've been training ambidextrously since I was 17, so about 4 years now. It's only digital contour lines I can't do with my other hand. If you see my recent submission, I think at least half of it was with my secondary hand. Most if you don't count the lines I had to draw before I erased them.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-05 14:57:24 +0000 UTC]

It must be great to be able to work almost the same with both hands.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-05 18:14:33 +0000 UTC]

Helps to be able to rest one hand and still immediately continue working with the other. Yet my other hand is still a bit slower. But I imagine this would stimulate something on both sides of my brain.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-05 19:23:35 +0000 UTC]

Sounds awesome, though it has been a long while since my hand hurt so much that I had to stop working...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-05 19:28:03 +0000 UTC]

What did you do to your hand?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AmaranthicalRose In reply to darthmanga [2015-05-06 05:16:43 +0000 UTC]

I think it was 3 years? ago.Β
I wanted to finish a present for a friend and ended up drawing for hours. But I think I wasn't used to that yet, so my wrist started hurting.
Still finished it though...but looking back at the picture now it's really horrible and it was totally not worth it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

darthmanga In reply to AmaranthicalRose [2015-05-06 05:26:34 +0000 UTC]

Which was the pic? Ever thought about using your secondary (I might assume your secondary is your left hand) to help your primary?
