This one's a bit more autobiographical, in a sense. Personal mental mess.I didn't have any particular plan to do The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove...and *had* I, I don't think I would have done it like this. But what started with an image of a girl releasing a nightingale became this when the other birds invaded.

What is your process like? Do you sketch before inking? And when you are inking, where do you begin?

I start by putting a composition together in Photoshop, using whatever images (and bits and pieces of images) I can find. Then I'll print it out, take a lightbox and trace the basic lines. (I figure I *could* draw it all out freehand, but then each one would take a ridiculously long time and it's the inking I really enjoy anyway). After that I fill in whatever details are missing and do the main outline in ink.
I do all the darkest areas first with a brush-tipped pen after I've outlined. Then I pick a part of the image and work on it until it's completely done (in this case, I did the crow first, then the owl, etc). The last thing I do is look at the overall picture and make sure the darks and lights are balanced.
