Description
I had some spare time today, so I picked up one of my old Warrior books just for the heck of it. Immediately I was suckered into an old pairing of mine I adored back in the day, so I decided maybe doing a little piece for them would be nice. It went from a simple flat line + colour to a full on painting, as I should have expected. So here they are, Leafpool and Mothwing.
Something that always bugged me in the whole New Prophecy to Power of Three arc was that Leafpool never got caught whilst pregnant. I mean, in the summer yes she would be plump, but mid-winter? Around that time you have to admit that yeah, she would be suspiciously round. Even if we can excuse the other clan cats not putting two and two together, I doubt the other medicine cats would ignore her appearance. I like to believe that Mothwing, as her best friend, would have provided some kind of support, or at least known what the hay was going on. For me, she and Leafpool had a lot more chemistry than Crowfeather and Leafpool, seemingly because they talked out their issues and had moments where it wasn't pure mooning, but times where they geuninely enjoyed being around the other. Factor in the endless amount of times Leafpool described Mothwing as "beautiful",
The crowd had parted so that Leafpaw could make out the young cat crouched beside him. [Mothwing] was startlingly beautiful, with glowing amber eyes in a triangular face, and a long golden pelt with rippling tabby stripes.

Leafpaw thought again how beautiful [Mothwing] was, but she was disconcerted when her friendly greeting was not returned.

and I just think they had a lot going for them. A shame Leafpool threw her whole life away to cater to the needs of one of the most selfish and narcissistic toms in the whole series. The New Prophecy arc definitely wasn't a huge favourite of mine by any means, but Leafpaw was much more likeable than Leafpool. When "love" based solely on appearance and literally nothing else didn't trash the career of a potentially brilliant medicine cat. I guess I'm just being wistful, but that can't stop me from believing Mothwing had a lot more going for her. (+ her abuse in Mistystar's super edition is downright impossible to read, and it made me single handedly despise the Riverclan leader)
