Description

“I was getting worried about you, Chryseis. We were supposed to meet three hours ago to patrol The Warf. We need to stay on top of Dark Owl and Dark Arrow’s trail or we’ll end up losing them again. I waited for as long as I could, but when you didn’t show up I went ahead and took care of the first sweep myself. We need to get going if we’re going to get another pass in before dawn.”

“Sorry, Athena... I was… unexpectedly detained.”

“Something going on at the Amazon Embassy tonight?”

“The Embassy? …Uhm, nope… everything there is just fine.”

“You seem a little shaken up. Everything ok?”

“Sure! I’m perfectly fine.”

“Are you in some kind of trouble?”

“Me? Nope... No trouble.”

“Chryseis, you’re covered in abrasions… Those look like rope burns.”

“I am? Oh… oh, yeah… well, I ran into a bunch of goons yesterday and they kind of got the drop on me, but I’m just fine.”

“Hmmm… well, that’s odd...”

“Why is that odd? It happens all the time. It’s not like you’ve never been captured by the bad guys.”

“No, not that… I meant that it’s odd that your injuries look so fresh. You usually heal pretty quickly, but those marks look like they’re only a few hours old. You’ve also got a fat lip and it kind of looks like you have a big goose egg on your forehead. Where have you been all night?”

“Athena… I’m perfectly…”

“Fine? …I know… you said that already. Actually, you said it three times.”

“Is there any chance you could maybe back off with the whole ‘Wisdom of Athena’ thing for tonight?”

“Sorry, it doesn’t have an off switch. I’m just trying to look out for you.”

“I know, and I appreciate that. Let’s get this sweep done so that we can call it a day.”

“So… you’re not going to tell me what happened?”

“Let’s just call it a ‘personal issue’ and let it go.”

“Ok, I understand. It’s just that the last time you had a mysterious ‘personal issue’ you stuck an arrow through Curia’s head and then went around stealing powers from every hero and villain from Queen City to Coastal City.”

“Well, I don’t have a Soul Bow or any powers at all anymore, so that’s no longer an issue.”

“Chryseis… if you say you can handle whatever is going on, then I believe you… but if you’re in some kind of trouble, I want to help.”

“Thanks… but nothing is going on. I’m definitely fine.”

“Maybe we should check in with Tabitha. If you’re experiencing memory problems, or losing track of time or something like that, she might be able to help.”

“Oh, don’t worry… Spellbound knows all about my problems. There’s nothing she can do for me… and besides, I haven’t actually heard from her in several weeks.”

“Well, things are getting tricky for the heroes in Coastal City. She’s probably just lying low.”

“Probably. It’s turning into a mess over there…but tonight we need to focus on cleaning up THIS city. Let’s go see if we can pick up Dark Owl or Dark Arrow’s trail.”

“Sounds good to me.”

“Great! Let’s go!”

“For the record, I still have no clue what’s really going on with you.”

“It’s driving you crazy, isn’t it?”

“I can’t help it! I love a good mystery!”

“Well, my mystery is very boring, so let’s fight some crime and get you focused on a case that’s a little more worthy of your insatiable analytical appetite.”

“Deal.”

“Alright then, you lead the way… Oh, and Athena…”

“Yes?”

“Thanks… I really do appreciate the concern.”

“I’ve always got your back, Chryseis.”

FYI: White Owl/Athena doesn't know about Chryseis's "split personality" identity as the librarian Ms. Kent... and Amazon Arrow has no memory of what happens to her body when Ms. Kent's personality is dominant... so NEITHER of the heroines really know where Chryseis's minor injuries came from. This story takes place a few hours after the latest Librarian Perils entry (which involves lots of rope):
Librarian Perils #26 - Surveillance Seduction

So true...after another night of getting tormented by a group of thugs I'm doubting myself too sometimes. Its par for the course of being a heroine but still...

Awesome image and writing!

This may be my newest "not-action, not-peril" top favorite image! And loved the text too. Really, really awesome image. Only one thing missing: White Owl's black pantyhose! grr!

She's wearing hose, but in my version they are a darker flesh tone rather than black.

And thanks for the praise!

Very nicely written. Of course, this would be an unfortunate time for the evil pair to strike, with Chryseis definitely not at her best, and White Owl's attention more on Chryseis than on the evildoers they are sweeping for.

Not yet actually... AA changes into Ms. Kent before she steps onto the library property. She has to go there voluntarily knowing that she will become Ms. Kent, so she goes in dressed as Ms. Kent before the switch. And she doesn't switch back until Ms. Kent voluntarily leaves the property.

But Sloppy Joe is watching and waiting if one or the other of them makes a mistake.

Not sure if it's the lighting or if you're trying something new with the rendering, but this image is stunning (and not just because of the two ladies in it.)

Poor Chryseis' library life is spilling into her heroine one. If she isn't careful, her secret will get out despite her best efforts.

amazonarrow In reply to SinisterMarauder [2015-06-12 02:32:25 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Actually this uses the same exact lighting setup that I have used for every single Amazon Arrow render to date. The only thing that I have ever changed is the direction of the primary light. I use this lighting setup for consistency and also because it renders lightning fast. It's a very basic light setup that came with this: www.daz3d.com/helena-for-v4

In Photoshop I desaturated the color to about 50% and added a blue tint. I also added the foreground smoke, blurred the background (which was rendered separately) and added the background sky/clouds (from stock photos). The abrasions were also added with Photoshop brushes.

I am mediocre with Poser's lights, materials and rendering engine... but I use Photoshop for a living, and Photoshop can fix anything.

So now we're that old Soap Opera  The Bold and the Beautiful.  You're beautiful and my words are in Bold.

Seriously a gorgeous picture, the poses are outstanding--Chrys looks apprehensive, and Owl is trying to look non chalant but the concern is showing though.  Love the rooftop you set up too.  Just wonderful...

Thanks for the praise! This is an important scene and will have repercussions for a near-future storyline, so I pulled out all the stops and tried to make it really cinematic.

An alternate idea.  Chryseis doesn't want snoopy White Owl finding out how much she enjoys self-bondage.  The tighter and more restrictive... the more she likes it!

Rob66 [2015-06-11 17:48:16 +0000 UTC]

As I slowly learn more and more about how renders are created and the work that goes into them, I grow more and more impressed by what I'm seeing here and elsewhere on DA. Just the detail, like the rope marks White Owl mentioned, is incredible. I'm also enjoying the cross-overs of characters which so many of you do.  It's good for the creators to increase their audience and it's good for people like me who might not otherwise discover a character or artist.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

amazonarrow In reply to Rob66 [2015-06-11 18:03:35 +0000 UTC]

Crossovers are fun! I always enjoy seeing other people's version of my characters and interacting with other artists, which is why I have so much fun doing a contest once a year that is designed to specifically encourage crossovers. I am constantly discovering new characters and new artists because I notice an artist that I am already following doing a crossover with an artist that is new to me.

The rope marks were added after rendering in Photoshop. I usually add a lot of Photoshop effects to my superheroine stuff to add smoke and light effects and atmosphere and fake depth of field blur.
Ms. Kent's adventures on the other hand are almost always posted exactly as they were rendered.

Rob66 In reply to amazonarrow [2015-06-12 11:21:15 +0000 UTC]

I totally agree with you about the benefits of crossovers among artists but it holds true for us non-artists too.  As a result of the Season 4 question by , I discovered so many new artists here who I now watch as well as lots of characters whose adventures (or is it misdaventures?) I now enjoy.
