So I've found another problem. I've been having some serious memory issues with Ponyscape (dang thing chews through my memory even when it's the only thing up, despite having 4 GB of ram), I went to Inkscape. Only problem is it doesn't have power stroke standard, so I can't really use it because I don't know how to enable experimental LPEs. Is there any alternatives to make the ends of single lines sharp?

Power strokes are presented in the beta-build of Inkscape, but for the current version of Inkscape there's one good alternative: [1] [2]

Thanks. Any tips on hiding the base layer on a picture for like if I vector a sketch?

Hm, well, you only need it when tracing stuff or checking upon details, otherwise you can hide it.

Well, I can't seem to hide the root layer, which is what the sketch likes to sit on for some reason.

As I said, I have no idea about that "root".

I disagree with part of the eye making. It's much easier to make eye highlights by using the semicircle function. That way, you can just copy and paste-in-place (ctrl+alt+v), then make the circle into a wedge.

I can disagree with copypasting in place. It's much easier to duplicate (Ctrl-D) an object.
Still, thanks for sharing.

I honestly had no idea what vectoring was unitl I read this. Thanks, it will make things easier for me in inkscape.

Oh wow, this is almost exactly how I make my vectors! Glad to know I'm not the only one who does that fill patch thing XD

I prefer to use inverse clip.

Its derivative - Ponyscape.

Interesting to see different approaches. While I use plain old Inkscape, I follow a few of the same steps, like with the eyes.
Other areas, especially body outline and fill, I go on a wild and barbaric tangent.

I actually found a really convenient way of using powerstrokes to fill things.
first, you take the original outline stroke, convert it to a powerstroke (color as nessasary), then copy/paste that stroke in place, then go stroke--->remove path effects, then set the fill color you want and use page up or down to layer it as needed

Well, uhh...
My ways usually involve recompiling my version Ponyscape whenever something doesn't work.
Clone original path, huh? Copy the source path. Draw a new two-point path. Add a Clone Original Path path effect to this new two point path. Click the paste path button. Done.
Clone original path was made specifically for filling Power Strokes. So it makes sense to use it for that.

This is a great tutorial! It explains the basic steps and everything you need to know.
I could have used this a few weeks ago when I started vectoring, would have saved me a lot of time.
But, good job!
