Description
There is no category for oil pastels! D:Anyhow. Another Fallen OC. This was just as I was starting to get wings down. I'm very proud of this for various reasons. One of which being that it made someone visiting the school want to commission me. I tried, but... well, you guys should know how I am when it comes to drawing for others.
The character in this is named Oliver. He's got a thing for Julianne. :]
Hopefully if my mom ever gets her camera back/ gets a completely new, better camera, I can get a picture taken that will do this justice.

Sunsets are always lovely and colorful, and you did a good job with colors with this one.

The lighting in this = great. Oh gosh, and OIL PASTELS, no less. I'm so bad in that medium that it is actually painful to view.
But this is just lovely. His wings are gorgeous.

Heheh, yeah, apparently oil pastels aren't a very popular medium. >u<

In addition to the other part of my reply, it helps to sketch things out on separate paper. That way you can have a basic idea of the picture's layout and you do multiple sketches to decide which one is best. c:

Uhm, well. It takes a bit of basic artistic elements, some practice with shading and the subject matter, and uhm... stuff like that. I'm not sure if I can really elaborate any more on it.
I hope that helped shed some light on your question. >u<
Thank you very much, by the way! : D

Thanx. My dad is the closest art teacher I have that can work with this range of media.

Ahh, I see. Well, just experiment and practice! : D
If you have to, use refs, but I wouldn't recommend using other peoples' works because they might get offended. You could probably get away with replicating one of those super famous pieces by people like Leonardo and Vincent Van Gough if you'd want to. But that's about it. Photos are good for reference, too.
Uhhhm. Crap, I had something else that was really useful to type but I forgot! D:>

Eheee, thank you so much! ;u;
This was a really fun piece to work on because of all the different colors I used in the highlights and shading. Lots of hot and cool colors.
