Description
Another piece from earlier this year. This was the first render I did while I was working on The Sweet Vibration but it didn't quite sit well with me at the time.Apophysis, GIMP

I love this image!
I'm just beginning to learn to make more complex flames than just mashing mutations on top of each other and I can't wait to (hopefully) get to this level of skill some day.

My suggestion would be to look into scripts - don't just run them and then render, but play with the results. With the exception of my 3D rotationals, I start a lot of my fractals (including this one) by running a script or two and then playing with the results. If you're creative about it, it cuts out some work but still gives you room to do something creative and unique.
Think of it like... if you were painting, having an abstract underpainting already done on the canvas. You still paint over it, and the finished product is yours and unique, but some of the preliminary steps have been done for you.
