Drawing a wolf with scratchboard

The gray wolf (Canis lupus), also known as the timber wolf or western wolf, is a canine native to the wilderness and remote areas of Eurasia and North America. It is the largest extant member of its family, with males averaging 43–45 kg (95–99 lb) and females 36–38.5 kg (79–85 lb). Like the red wolf, it is distinguished from other Canis species by its larger size and less pointed features, particularly on the ears and muzzle. Its winter fur is long and bushy and predominantly a mottled gray in color, although nearly pure white, red, and brown to black also occur. Mammal Species of the World (3rd ed., 2005), a standard reference work in zoology, recognises 38 subspecies of C. lupus.Gray wolfs are pack hunters.

Hi! I was looking at this piece from my favorites and saw the critique request, so here we go!

First off, this close up is everything. The perspective makes for a dramatic point of view and adds an emotional emphasis to this picture as a whole. The atmosphere of the picture is also highlighted by the snow that's present on the fur.

As for the art elements themselves:

For the lines: I like how they're used in the background to emphasize the direction of the snow, creating an asymmetrical balance. They're also used as a way to direct the eye's attention to the focal point, which is done through the way the snow is blowing towards wolf.

For the Light: The natural light source in this picture is also used to direct the eye's attention and create emphasis, but what's really impressive is the shadows and the way they create depth in the picture.

As for color: Although this is a grayscale drawing, the black and whites create the tone and intensity that makes the mood of this artwork.

As for Texture: The texture of this artwork is breathtaking. No question.

As for Scale: The scale and proportions created by the artwork's perspective tie together all of the picture's elements.

Improvements: I know that critiques are suppose to mention improvements, but I have nothing negative to say. The details in this piece are crisp - and the slight blur of the background creates the same kind of effect for depth and perspective that it would in a photograph. So I guess I'll say that the eye of the wolf is very detailed, but adding some sort of light or gleam would bring it to life and make it stunning. Reflecting the light source in the eye would also help emphasize the emotion and atmosphere of the artwork.

Me ha gustado mucho el efecto en este dibujo. No conocía esa técnica. Se nota que la has usado en el dibujo adecuado, los cúmulos de nieve sobre el pelo del lobo quedan muy bien hechos así. Además tiene una especie de efecto 3D que le aporta interés.
