Author's Note: Another layer to Barlocke's ever-increasing complexity and ambiguity. I love the nature of their conversation behind the bar, the light dazzling through the multicolored bottles as pipe smoke swirls around them. It just adds so mystery to a heartfelt conversation. Rereading the story and actually taking the time to edit it carefully makes me appreciate this work all the more. Again and again, I feel so proud of it.
