Description Inside the Raycast materials folder is a read me file that describes the various possible settings for a material FX file. Some are easier to understand than others. This is a test render using a different setting on the normal map parameters, one that has puzzled me for a while. The shadows it creates seem to shift in relation to the camera and lighting angle, kind of like a sphere map. It's certainly...interesting. It has this hazy, diffused feel to it, although shadows can get really dark!
The above test render is the same scene using the exact same Raycast settings, stage, and model. The only difference is I created copies of all the material FX files applied to Domon, and changed them to use the parameter "NORMAL_MAP_TYPE 4."
In hindsight, it may also have helped to adjust the lighting for the different types of normal map. I suppose that's an experiment for another day. For comparison, the bottom part of the image shows the usual materials that I apply to Domon's model. Materials on the stage are the same for each render.
