THIS IS WHY JACK IS MY GO-TO GAL, GODDAMMIT.I didn't have Miranda's loyalty the first play-through, but wasn't about to let her incompetence get Garrus killed, so I reloaded the second I got the chance.
But for my latest Shep I decided to give her another shot, since I was able to break up the fight btw her and Jack (with the renegade option).
She still failed D: WTF MIRANDA.
This time I just continued on, though. It sucked, but I figured fuck it.

I know Jack and Samara are the ones to bring.
The first incident happened the very first time I played, and didn't know. The second time happened on my 5th Shep, to try someone other than Jack or Samara.
Clearly, I learned my lesson. >.> Back to the fire team with you, Miranda, you butthead.

I posted this (and the above edit) a few years ago and I still get people popping by every so often and telling me how to survive the suicide mission. wat

I'm so glad I didn't choose Miranda. oAo I would've raged so bad if Thane or Garrus died because of Miranda. I was deciding between Samara, Miranda and Jack. Chose Jack *thumbs up*.
I did fine for all the choices, BUT MORDIN DIED OFF SCREEN IN THE SECOND GROUP AT THE END, GNRAAAAAH! I had everyone's loyalty too.
What pisses me off is that at one point an unloyal Miranda can live where other loyal team mates would die. Seriously, loyal Grunt getting shot in the gut and dies VS unloyal Miranda getting shot in the gut and it fine. BS.

I know - I find it depressing that Jacob's volunteering for the vents and Miranda's insistence that any biotic could hold the barrier both fall flat. But at least Jacob only ends up killing himself - that Miranda's failure results in the deaths of *others* is what makes this situation so maddening.

I really do not know how this work exactly although there are two factor for success, loyal companions and when the crew is kidnap, we have to go and rescue them right away.
I did not do this with my paragon so Legion died but I found it funny that Miranda always survive in your game LOL

I took Jack with me as a team mate so Samara held barrier, I was really tempted to bring Jacob as a tech before too, simply to let him die of foolishness, but the priiiiize xD (not like I dated him but he promised to go out drinking with Rin and Rin doesn't say no to going out drinking so that idiot had to survive XD)

On another playthrough I decided to listen to Miranda. So for tech I sent Jacob since he volunteered then he died.
And then Miranda says she can do the biotic field, so I thought...if Jacob was a bad choice and he died, then Miranda might die since I took Jack's side...and Garrus died.

When Miranda tell you about her biotics, she says something about maximum for a human. Jacks Biotics are way beyond genetics, the experiments took whatever she had genetically and boosted it. So IMO it makes perfect sense that even with maximum biotics on a genetic level Miranda would still not be as strong as Jack. Or an Asari with hundreds of years of experience in using Biotics for that matter.

As for their respective usefulnesses in the game: Jack is great with her shockwave on easier difficulties, but borderline useless on the higher ones, since there almost every enemy has some form of protection. Wheras Miranda having both Warp and Overload is much more useful on higher difficulties than the lower ones.

Yeah! That mission freaked me out. I killed that creepy reaper-baby and ran to my ship. Mordin dead. Argh! *reload* Tried again. Tali dead. ARGH! Changed my team and let Grunt stay with the others. But itΒ΄s a lot harder without Grunt... -.-Β°
But the expression on the last panel... ThatΒ΄s probably how i looked in the bossfight against Benezia. I got stuck in the wall several times and was kind of executed....

lol, ya, the only time you wanna prefer miranda is leading the secondary squad during the first push. but garrus works too, and jack won't hate him, so you can just ignore her pretty much altogether XD

Don't the loyalty missions have a big part of securing survival? Like if one person isn't loyal another dies that is loyal? Seen that happen

Yeah, survival comes down to loyalty as well as who's right for the job.
Non-loyal members will survive, if you keep them in the background, but one of them's in charge, it risks having a loyal member killed. :<

That is really weird. Because I went all out Renegade, and all of his dialogue was distinctly Paragon.
He told me to save the council, because the Reapers were bigger than humanity.
Save the Rachni because it would be outright genocide

Maybe it depends on which way your Shep is leaning. Though even with my latest Shep, who was practically dead-even on ren/par, Garrus insisted on keeping the Collector base.
Maybe it also depends on who else you have with you, though. Like Liara wanted to save the rachni, but Garrus thought they were too dangerous. Maybe if I had Wrex with me instead, Garrus would be the one to speak on the rachni's behalf.
Or maybe it's random and I just have the bad luck of having a slightly deranged Garrus. >_>;;

I had Wrex + Garrus nearly 100 percent of the time in ME1. Wrex was all about destroying the Rachni like no other, and Garrus insisted on saving them. Same for the Citadel Council. Wrex was like "What have they ever done for you? BURN!" and Garrus was like "The scope of the Reaper issue extends beyond humanity. It isn't wise to destroy the council' etc. etc.
Try doing an almost 100% renegade playthrough and see what happens.

If you had Wrex all the time, too, then maybe that's it- one has to offer par, one has to suggest ren, so Garrus just ended up suggesting the par with you because you had Wrex shouting for blood on your other side. XD
Usually when I'm out with Garrus, I have someone like Tali or someone else who leans more towards morals, so I guess that's why the ren suggestion comes from him with me.

Yeah for some reason if you don't have 100% loyalty, it's always the dudes who aren't loyal that will make it.... and if you do get 100% loyalty you need to read the strategy guide for who to pick to do which stuff.

To be honest, my first time around I didn't even think I could. I thought if I said Morinth that Samara would kill her, be pissed at you and either try to leave or kill you too. My second time around I went with Morinth and was shocked out of my mind. I was all like, "SWEET, NEW COMPANION DIALOGUE!!"

Nah, I've experimented with a lot of them; this was my fifth time playing, and putting Miranda as the biotic was the only one I wasn't 100% sure of. Every other Shep got out with the whole team alive.
