“All Hallows' Feast”

Olorotitian arharensis, generic Alioramine tyrannosaurid, generic Velociraptorine dromaosaurid, generic oviraptorid, generic ornithomimid. An acrylic painting of a young Olorotitan who got its head stuck between a twisted, forked branch of a tree and could not get free, which led it to becoming a meal for some local opportunists.

This was an idea a friend of mine, Nathan Van Vranken, suggested to me a few months ago. I started the sketch a month or two ago, then got to panting it in early October. I hoped to get it done by Halloween and I managed to accomplish that. The scenario was inspired by a photo of a deer that got its antlers stuck in a fence, an act that got itself skeletonized by coyotes and other opportunists.

The idea I originally had involved a pachycephalosaur of some kind but Nathan floated the idea of a Lambeosaurine hadrosaur, specifically an Olorotitan. I do have another idea for an illustration involving a pachycephalosaur in a similar scenario still in the sketch stages though.

Completed late October 2019.
