“Fall Snackings”

Alaskan troodontid, Unnuakomys hutchisoni. A painting of an Alaskan troodontid grabbing a little Unnuakomys mammal as a snack before the long winter approaches.

This piece was directly inspired by an image of a large owl on the ground with a rodent in its jaws. I wanted to capture the same feel of the picture. There was not much in the way of preliminary work as I usually do these days (lots of thumbnails sketching, playing around with the composition in Photoshop, etc.). I basically just grabbed a sheet of illustration board and drew the underdrawing prior to painting.

Completed in early July 2021.

Done using acrylics, color pencils and Photoshop CC.
