“Rolling the Dice with Kuru”

Kuru kulla, Shri devi. An acrylic painting of a female Kuru about to dig into a young Shri she found stumbling aimlessly through the badlands, unaware of the prion disease that led to its erratic manner.

Directly inspired by the wonderful sequence from Prehistoric Planet, I wanted to play around with the genus name of Kuru, since it by coincidence shares it with the notorious prion disease. It was such a funny happenstance that the authors had to directly address this fact in the paper describing the genus, stating that it was not named after said prion disease. Both Kuru and Shri are named after local deities of the region they occur at.

This piece is one of a few Mongolian velociraptorine based projects; the other is the Tsaagan piece that I am about 75% through and another two involve Velociraptor proper (of both species).

Completed in late November 2023.
