Description
"Seriously?"
Baryonyx walkeri. A digital painting I did of an unimpressed Baryonyx.
Did this as a comical sketch upon seeing the Baryonyx for the upcoming Jurassic World 2 trailer. Just to be clear, I am not critical of the anatomical inaccuracies, just the poor creature design.Β The JP Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptors are not anatomically accurate but are still good creature designs, and I adore them. What we have seen so far of the Baryonyx is pretty subpar. It looks like a melted plastic Baryonyx toy.
Maybe it will look better in the final film, but I have my doubts.
Done using Photoshop CC and pencils.
Completed on the 28th of January 2018.

I spotted crocodile back scales... honestly all the dinosaurs are probably supposed to look "toy classical", it explains all the other changes to dinos like the Triceratops, Stego and Ankylo in the new movies.
I wonder if that was on purpose. If it was its a good and creative idea to keep cannon with that "these aren't even dinosaurs" reasoning.

so i wasn't the only one who noticed the stegosaurus, triceratops and ankylosaurus looked like only Charles R knight style?

I suppose you are not... all the dinosaur designs of past films have been quite heavily science based, but then they changed it for the ones in JW, its most likely not a case of not caring about accuracy like what was thought, but it might actually be creative liberties because you can't match the information that keeps developing so they just stuck to the basic vision, additionally It really does help with the concept these animals were designed by biased people.

ok then, i guess that makes sense
but i feel like with tail positions of the stegosaurus we should know by now and the ankylosaurus body shape should look more like the fossils, so some bits are pretty obvious design wise, know what i mean?
i get it though i am not complining about accuracy in a JP film i am only confused as to go backwards in design

They likely already do know and just they chose this instead for its more obvious and recognizable look to hammer in the point the dinosaurs are designed off an outdated vision of the era. Might also make things easier for designers since science can change a lot, like "we're already unrealistic and outdated with all the advancements in science like feathers, lets just pick a design and stick to one for the rest of this thing"
I don't mind either, they got good reason in universe to make it so.
