Description

"Seriously?"

Baryonyx walkeri. A digital painting I did of an unimpressed Baryonyx.

Did this as a comical sketch upon seeing the Baryonyx for the upcoming Jurassic World 2 trailer. Just to be clear, I am not critical of the anatomical inaccuracies, just the poor creature design.Β The JP Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptors are not anatomically accurate but are still good creature designs, and I adore them. What we have seen so far of the Baryonyx is pretty subpar. It looks like a melted plastic Baryonyx toy.

Maybe it will look better in the final film, but I have my doubts.

Done using Photoshop CC and pencils.

Completed on the 28th of January 2018.

I would refer you to read the description of the piece, explaining why I did this illustration.

So you read I was unhappy with the creature design of animal and not it’s scientific accuracy (which are two different things)?

I can agree with you, i like the design seen in the movie but they could have made it more similar to Spinosaurus from JP 3, giving it longer arms as well.

Personally, I don't hate the Baryonyx's design for the upcoming film, but I just wish they could have made it appear more like its actual, real-life counterpart. Even previous pieces of Jurassic Park-oriented media did a better job at that.

I mean, Baryonyx's name clearly means "heavy claw" in Greek, so they could have at least made it more convincing as a Baryonyx rather than just jump the shark and give their Baryonyx design for the new movie small as hell thumb claws and forelimbs.

Hm, I like the new Baryonyx. People say "Oh, it's too general and basic..." but when you think of it, so was the T. Rex. It was so general and basic, nothing took away from it just being a boring dinosaur but the scenes it was in made people think that it was this awesome creature that will kick dino ass but there's nothing new. I feel that the design, although admittedlyΒ bland, has some good parts to it such as its color design. I adore the color design on it and I think it looks cool. Oh well, rant over. Cool drawing, it looks awesome!
