Description
"Stan, the Scarred"Tyrannosaurus Rex. A recent painting of Stan, the T-rex, who is the 3rd most complete T-rex known to science whose fossils are housed at the Black Hills Institute. I wasn't sure on how many facial scars he had so I added a few of my own. The only one that I knew for sure was a scar of his was the one on the bridge of his snout. His most famous pathology was one I think in the back of his head, probably caused by another T-rex.
Thats what I went with for the painting. I depicted his face was covered with various bite and scratch marks from other rexes. Dinosaurs were tough like most modern reptiles. Crocodilians have been found with such horrendous injuries like limbs that have been completely ripped out, eyes gouged out, chunks of their tails bitten off, hell I even saw one problem croc on an old Crocodile Hunter episode that had half of its lower jaw broken off in a previous battle. And yet, all these animals survived to fight another day. Stan here even shows evidence of a broken neck which he recovered from, as a result two of his vertebra had fused together. Most mammals can't survive even minor injuries, yet these battled hardened reptiles and dinosaurs had persevered.
Done with a mix of water colors and poster colors.
Completed in late January 2009.

Reminds me of an image on the poster and/or cover of BBCs Walking With Dinosaurs.
Nice.
