Description
Sometime back the idea for this picture was pitched to me amongst a few others. All mighty fine ideas, but this one stuck out to me the most because I could actually see it (if that makes sense). It wasn't until I actually saw Frozen that I caught a fire (heh-heh) for this picture and set off to do it, and I am so very glad that I did. Doing this was probably the most fun I have had in a while, and I think that's 'cause of a lot of reasons. First time drawing Elsa, drawing a better Sub-Zero, doing it all digitally and getting more into coloring and lighting...this entire thing was pretty much like playing in...well, snow for me.
That last bit makes sense if you've ever seen me play in the snow.
6/8/2014~ And 200+ faves? Aw, thanks you guys!
7/18/2014~ Oh WOW! This has gone and become my most faved deviation of all time! Thank you so much!
11/22/2014~ 300 FAVES?! GUUUUUUUYS, thank you!
Sub-Zero is (C) Netherrealm Studios. Elsa is (C) Disney.
Boy, ain't it weird seeing those two together?

He was always good. He does kill, yes, but only for personal reasons and if it is ABSOLUTELY necessary. He does bad things meant for greater good. His eyes only became white because his powers enhanced by 50% or so when he became the Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei.

Thats true buy why are there two Sub-Zeros? One is the young brother (good) and the older brother (bad) right?
π: 0 β©: 1
Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-19 01:25:07 +0000 UTC]
The original Sub-Zero, Bi-Han Liang (the one you play in the original game) was neutral and only killed others if the Grandmaster ordered him to do so. He wasn't really bad, he loved his younger brother with all his life and would die protecting him if he must. But after Scorpion killed him, Quan Chi resurrected him as a wraith with the ability to mimic and manipulate shadows. Then he had no heart or soul and killed others without mercy and cared nothing for his brother. He became evil.
The younger (and the current) Sub-Zero, Kuai-Han Liang, is good. He cares deeply for his friends, Kitana, Liu Kang, Nightwolf, Raiden and Sonya. And especially for his best friend since childhood, Smoke. He would fight and die to help them and protect them (he saved Kitana's life from Cyborg Smoke and saved Liu Kang's life from Sektor once). He protects innocent people (he saved 10 US soldiers from Goro and Kano) and he does not kill unless it's for personal reasons or if the opponent cannot be redeemed nor imprisoned. He is Noob Saibot's (original Sub-Zero) enemy, despite once being his brother, he would kill him since he is a soulless being and cannot be redeemed.
So here you go. It's a bit annoying when people think that Sub-Zero is just a cold-hearted assassin, so I decided to explain that he is indeed a good person. He and Elsa could be a good couple, but only Elsa would love him. Sub-Zero would only want to be her friend, not love interest. He has never had one and therefore cannot have one.

CadetotheEndFTW In reply to Keseko [2014-05-19 01:29:29 +0000 UTC]
Okay, thanks for the explanation. Because I sometimes get them confused from the movies and games so yeah But now after what you told me, I now understand both Sub-Zeros better
And true that they would be friends better than love interests. Because neither Elsa or Kual-Han Liang, hae love interests.

You're welcome
I know, but fan artists like to pair them together because they have so much in common (except Elsa doesn't crack people's back open and rip out their bloody spine. lol). They both care deeply for their loved ones and would do whatever is necessary to protect them. But even if Elsa would want to be with him. Kuai-Han Liang would just look on her with a weird look and ask her "what are you trying to say" or something like that . He was raised and trained as a master assassin since he was a toddler and therefore is not interested in any romantic relationship (nor is he even attracted towards anyone).
He would be interested in becoming her best friend and teaming up with her. Although I don't really know what their relationship would be like since Elsa is a queen and Kuai-Han Liang is a Grandmaster of the Lin Kuei Assassin clan. Not to mention that Sub-Zero would probably dislike many characters in Frozen, such as Hans or maybe even Anna. But if he was Elsa's devoted friend, he would probably respect them since he was raised and trained to be extremely respectful of his friends and allies and their views.
Interesting plot for a crossover-fan fiction, isn't it?

CadetotheEndFTW In reply to Keseko [2014-05-19 03:03:43 +0000 UTC]
Yeah I see your point. But for them being best friends sounds much better than love interests cause if they were to be together, just a thought, then it would ruin a few moments.Β
Oh I know he'll really hate Hans, especially what he tried to do in Arendelle. But that is a good plot for a cross-over fanfic for them

Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-19 21:19:40 +0000 UTC]
I'm not sure how he would do that since Elsa's powers are originated from a magical curse. Sub-Zero is a half-Human/half-Cryomancer and therefore his powers are genetic. But he had a similar problem as his powers grew more with age, but all he had to do was to focus on his purity of will to direct his powers.

CadetotheEndFTW In reply to Keseko [2014-05-19 21:26:15 +0000 UTC]
Thats true, but there are fanfics that are 'what if', so what not what if when Elsa is being being born, the leader of Sub-Zero's clan to transfer the genetic ability into the mother of Elsa during her pregnancy to help save the clan or something.Β
Just throwing out ideas
π: 0 β©: 1
Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-19 21:54:03 +0000 UTC]
hmmm....yes, well...That is a good idea to begin with. I have been a Mortal Kombat fan for more than a decade and if I know the Lin Kuei clan right, the Grandmaster would do anything to keep his clan alive. If he would want to duplicate Sub-Zero's ability and put it in a Royal heir, that would mean that he'd done so because Elsa was to be trained as an Assassin. But since the Grandmaster was very power hungry, he would want to use Elsa as a puppet when she becomes queen because by that time she would be extremely loyal to the Lin Kuei.
Kuai-Han Liang, despite being the most powerful Lin Kuei and loyal, would not agree with the Grandmaster because the Lin Kuei do not force people to join them, they either recruit or raise orphaned children as their own. Since the Grandmaster has broken that rule, Sub-Zero would throw away his loyalty to him and do what is necessary; either kill Elsa or train her to become powerful enough to overthrow the corrupted leader. Sub-Zero would defeat Elsa in hand-to-hand combat but as he realizes that she is unaware of the origin of her powers and of the Lin Kuei's existence, he spares her life.
Then he would offer her to take his hand and come with him and train. He teaches her to direct her pure will and focus in order to manipulate her powers completely, then he would teach her Ninjutsu, Tae Kwon Do and Muay Thai (all which Sub-Zero is a master of). The new duo would become very close friends and get to know each other personally. Kuai-Han Liang would tell her of his life as an assassin, the way he was raised to reject all deep emotions such as love, hate, fear and envy, and perhaps he would tell her that he is also the last member of an extinct race of Cryomancers. Elsa would tell him about her traumatizing experience when she almost killed her sister and the way she isolated herself in fear of wounding her again.
How does that sound?

CadetotheEndFTW In reply to Keseko [2014-05-19 22:05:24 +0000 UTC]
Sounds good, sounds promising. Though one thing, the Grandmaster gives Elsa the ice powers or was she born with them from a curse?
π: 0 β©: 1
Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-19 22:23:40 +0000 UTC]
That depends on which one you want to follow. In the original fairy tale, Elsa was dark and cruel and as evil as the devil himself. She could only see the bad side of her, the devil cursed her with her powers so she would remain power hungry and a murderous human being (she killed people for her own amusement). The Grandmaster would see this as an opportunity and use her blood-thirst to assassinate other people.
If you would want to follow the new animated film (where the origin of her powers aren't really explained properly) she could have gotten her powers as you suggested, the Grandmaster wants to use Elsa as a puppet by duplicating a portion of Sub-Zero's powers and putting them into Elsa's mother while she is pregnant with her. So he could spread the Lin Kuei influence to the Scandinavian peninsula (Elsa is Swedish, I think. H.C Andersen usually based his stories in the Scandinavian regions like Finland, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, and Sweden)
So which should it be? Elsa cursed by the devil himself? Or having her powers brought into her by the Grandmaster while she was in her mother's womb?
π: 0 β©: 1
CadetotheEndFTW In reply to Keseko [2014-05-20 00:42:23 +0000 UTC]
Lets see...first of Elsa is Norwegian, and not sure what route to take. Lets look at which sides there are. If we chose the devil side, then the Grandmaster will want to use Elsa as his own personal puppet to kill others and Sub-Zero will be force to kill Elsa.
But by choosing the animated film, Sub-Zero will have to confront Elsa because she has the powers the Grandmaster gave her when she was in her mother's womb. By doing so he can either kill her or train her to use them properly.
Is there anything I missed? I'm just thinking on what I THINK is true

Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-20 01:14:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes.
Devil side: Elsa is cursed with her powers by the devil and the Grandmaster seizes opportunity to grant her wish to kill others by training her as an assassin (this version, Elsa sticks to her original self, a cold-hearted and cruel human being). Sub-Zero feels that the Grandmaster has betrayed the Lin Kuei by forcing someone to become an assassin to benefit the leader, instead of the clan. Kuai-Han Liang (Sub-Zero) will have to choose between ridding everyone of Elsa's evil being by killing her, or help her reclaim her sanity by helping her control her powers so she can she her good side.
New animated film side: The Grandmaster transfers a portion of Sub-Zero's genetic freezing abilities and puts them into Elsa while her mother is pregnant with her. The Grandmaster plans to train her as a Lin Kuei and since she is the heir to the throne of Arendelle, he would be able to use her as a puppet and he would become the de facto leader of her kingdom. Sub-Zero, knowing that the Grandmaster has betrayed the Lin Kuei with this, decides to attack Elsa and attempts to kill her. But he realizes that she is unaware of the Grandmaster's plan (and his existence) and he decides to spare her life after he defeated her in combat. He decides to train her to use her powers properly so they can both team up and overthrow the Grandmaster, ensuring the safeties of both Elsa's kingdom and Kuai-Han Liang's clan of Assassins. In the meanwhile, Elsa and Kuai-Han become close friends.
I'm not sure either, which one should it be?
Also, in the new animated movie, Elsa's kingdom and location is entirely fictional. In the fairy tale her birthplace was unknown but she lived anywhere in Scandinavia where there was snow. So she could have been Swedish, Norwegian or Finnish. Denmark and Iceland are Scandinavian but are not geographically on the peninsula, (even though Danes and Icelanders appeared in the tale) so she could not be Danish nor Icelandic. But I'm not entirely sure, but she did spend a lot of time in northern Sweden.

Those are some really good pathways on how to start the story. I mean I wouldn't mind seeing evil Elsa fight against Sub-Zero before deciding on whether or not to kill her.
But on the other hand, I wanna see good Elsa to be trained on how to use her ice powers and martial arts to take down enemies from the Southern Isles and teaming up with Sub-Zero to take down the Grandmaster.
Okay, that makes sense on the geographical map, and it is a fictional kingdom and yet it got inspired by the actual location.
π: 0 β©: 1
Keseko In reply to CadetotheEndFTW [2014-05-20 11:22:55 +0000 UTC]
All right, in that case the story should be a Frozen/Mortal Kombat crossover, not Snow Queen/Mortal Kombat.
Perhaps I should begin writing. lol.
But should there be other appearances? Though Sub-Zero would probably not be very fond of Anna nor Kristoff (he would view them as "foolish" or "childish" because of how they acted throughout the film. (just a personal view as well; I didn't think their "love story" made much sense. lol)). Elsa would probably not be very fond of Smoke (Sub-Zero's best friend since early childhood) because of the his personality (he is quick to judge people he does not know or those whom he considers hostile). Nevertheless. I said before that Sub-Zero is extremely respectful to his friends and those he cares about, so he would mostly just be look on Anna or Kristoff with angry eyes. Elsa would probably share a similar feeling towards Smoke.
Also, the fictional Kingdom is mostly just inspired by the landscape of Scandinavia (it can be seen if you look at the mountains, bays and trees).
