Black Mamba
Gender: Female
Species: Melanistic SandWing
Age: ???
Appearance: She was born with a condition called "melanism" which is the excess of melanin pigments in the skin, thus making her scales darker than any normal SandWing.
Story: Because of her odd condition, she was abandoned by her parents and left to die alone in the desert. However, she managed to survive by hunting at night, when her dark-colored scales were difficult to see due to the darkness. She adapted her routine and became a night hunter. She moved to the Scorpion's Den and began working as a bounty hunter. She eventually became known as "Black Death" since she can kill easily at night. Black Mamba is usually suspicious towards any dragon and she doesn't tent to trust other dragons easily, since many dragons used to mistreat her because of her condition, so she is grumpy and moody and tends to be very aggressive if confronted.
One day she met Fennec, a well-known assassin and outlaw in the Scorpion Den and she learned that he also had a strange condition that made other dragons mock him, so he invited her to be a part of his gang and she accepted. Fennec was the onlt dragon who ever showed compassion and kindness towards her, so she began to admire him and eventually she began to develop feelings for him as well.

Appearance: Fennec was born with abnormally big ears for a normal SandWing and that is the motive behind his name. He also has some brown freckles on his snout and he also wear a golden ring on his horn and he usually wears a black cloack to cover his large ears and hide them from other dragons.
Story: Fennec was always mocked by other dragons because of his abnormality and this transformed him into a cruel, merciless dragon. He decided to win respect from other dragons through fear, so he trained hard and became a very skilled fighter. Every dragon who mocked him about his large ears was killed by him and he began to earn some reputation around the Scorpion Den. Eventually, Fennec decided to turn into an assassin as a way to earn respect from other dragons and make them fear him. From a famous assassin, he eventually became a Mafia leader and he formed his own small gang of outlaws (not as big as Vulture's of course) but he earned his reputation as a powerful leader.
One day he meets Black Mamba, who, just like him, was born with an odd condition that made other dragons mistreat her, so he invited her to join his gang. They became closer with time and Fennec started to develop feelings for her.

I only have been on DA for a year now, but it seens as if this place is really getting more and more numb as time goes, which is a shame. Interaction and feedback is a really healthy thing for an art community to have :/

As referências do livro ajuda bastante, mas eu também gosto ver a interpretação no traço do artista c:
Nisso eu adorei o design e a historia da Whitefire!! Muita gente esquece dessa intolerância que os Asas do Céu (pelo menos, no reinado de Escarlate) tem com qualquer anormalidades, o que é uma pena porque desperdiça uma bela oportunidade de construção psicológica de personagem.
Eu realmente gostaria de ver mais dela e essa relação que o Cactus tem com a Celeste, alem da do Fennec com a Black Mamba!

Sim, eu sei o que quer dizer. É que ultimamente como ando desenhando mais fanarts de Yugioh, acabei perdendo o jeito de desenhar dragões 
Aaah, fico feliz que tenha gostado dela! Ela e a Celeste são minhas OCs favoritas, haha
Sim exatamente! A história da WhiteFire é bem triste, já que ela viveu trancada muitos anos numa caverna (assim como os dragonetes do destino) porque sua mãe sempre dizia que o mundo lá fora era muito perigoso e ela desenvolveu muitos medos e doenças psicológicas por conta disso. Ela tem Agorafobia, que é o medo de sair de casa (nesse caso, a caverna) e ela acredita que se o sol tocar a pele dela, suas escamas vão derreter e ela vai morrer. Ela é meio neurótica tipo a Peril, só que ao contrário, porque ela tem medo de tudo
Ah sim! 
O Fennec e a Black Mamba também tem uma relação muito fofa e seria bem legal explorar mais eles no futuro

Não, eu te entendo, arte digital é tipo MIL VEZES melhor! Mas por algum motivo eu não consigo fazer o desenho direto na digitalizadora, nunca sai do jeito que eu quero Eu pretendo comprar no fim desse ano o Tablet Samsung Galaxy Tab A que já vem com a S pen pra poder usar o medibang nele e assim poder fazer o desenho direto nele (Já que não tem condições comprar uma Cintiq né? Elas são o preço de um carro semi-usado ) Assim talvez eu consiga desenhar direto digitalmente. Não sei porque não consigo desenhar direto na Wacom, deve ser porque sou canhota, não sei

Por hora eu to usando uma Wacom padrão mesmo ^^ Se ela desse problema talvez eu fosse pegar um tablet também. Deve ser bem mais pratico
(Eu adoro o Thot! por hora tá assim . como ele vai estampar o manual do jogo tinha que ser algo bem simpático e eu não fazia ideia de como desenhar uma ibis sorrindo xD se você tiver alguma ideia ai...eu por exemplo não sei se faço algum penteado nele ou sei lá)

I understand how you feel. Since one of the things that motives us artists is the support of others. Like you I haven't had as many comments on my art like I used to. It could be that people are busy these days. Nice to see some dragon drawings from you. Both of their stories are great. It's hard to choose a favorite. Fennec's design is my favorite. I like that because they both have an abnormally that they were able to become friends. Nice work.

Yes, indeed. I'm asking that because one of the reasons I stopped making Wings of Fire fanart was because the lack of support from this fandom. It is already a small fandom and only a few famous artists receive attention.

I am not familiar with this universe but I really like the designs and the backstories. It is interesting how she is the girl, even if she looks awfully "strong" and "manly" in a way, but maybe is just the color that can elude.
I also liked how you named him "Fennec" from the fox with the same color. (and perhaps because of the ears too...)
She also has a great eye color (yellow). It must be intimidating to face in the night. She looks kind of arrogant, like smirking or something.

It is? Well I guess it is because people usually tens to associate darker colors with male characters while lighter colors are often associated to females (like the concept of Yon Yang and the ancient Egyptian paintings that often depicted women being of a lighter color)
Yep! In the Wings of Fire series, the dragons are named according to their environments. Like for example, SandWings are dragons that live in the desert so their names will always have something to do with the desert, like Cactus, Sandstorm, and also desert animals like Jackal, Camel, Ostrich and so goes on. I thought that Fennec would be a nice name for a SandWing (since Fennecs are desert foxes) and I also wanted to add a unique characteristic for him such as the large ears so make him suit gis name more

Yep, she is arrogant and cruel because she was mistreated by her own tribe (the SandWings) because of the fact that she was born with melanism, making her different from the other members of her tribe

I know it's symbolic, but they used ligheter colors for females and darker colors for males and that seems to be a common conception

Well if that was the problem, I repeat I have almost always detailed descriptions so even someone who doesn't know can get into the meaning of it, plus someone can only comment based on what they see (like I did to your Star Wars pics. I have no idea of Star Wars and I do not understand but I can see the meaning of a pic) but I understand what you mean. Besides in order to make the crossover work, based on the characters' personalities I had to hint some shonen ai inside (not something exessive or direct, bedies the anime is horror not romance) but I would understand that might add another reason for you not to check it out...

Well I never said to "associate" the color with gender. But it is a symbolic thing used all the time
I myself wouldn't associate the color with the strong position of someone but I know what you mean. Besides dragons are mythical creatures and anyone could say anything they wanted for them
I am just stating that in general in nature, male animals have more impressive colors than female animals. This is a way to tell them apart sometimes. There are sme exceptions of course, for example insects are bigger in the female gender and smaller in male (for example spiders and mosquitoes and praying mantis etc)

Well I don'l like other animes, for a start. I'm not an anime fan. I only like the ones I already watched as a kid, like Yugioh and Dragon Ball Z, so it's not like me to comment on something that doesn't interest me.

Well, yes, because they need stronger colors to impress the females more easily since there are strong competition between them but this happens more among birds. In mammals and reptiles this is not so common. Also the hyenas are the only mammals known to have a complete matriarchal society. Female hyenas are often bigger and stronger than males and this is how I often picture dragons, the females being bigger and stronger than the males
I think too big ears are unsettling... I'm a perfectionist and I prefer everything to be more... "symetrical" and proportional

Oh well I thought is more or less the same thing because it happens to me a lot.
On the contrary it happens to mammals too. For example the animals with horns the males have bigger horns (for example deer) and they have more intense colors sometimes (well not so striking as it happens with birds but... Also reptiles have it but in rarer occasions. There was actually something I read years ago about scientists having the theory that dinosaurs as well had more intense colors as males.
Like I said there are exceptions to the rule especially on insects but yes hyenas too. It is a matter of species too.
Well to me is all the same because even if I am a perfectionist myself I also listen to practical side of my mind and like something because it is practical
