I was inspired by Saturnus and their beautiful melancholic song "Thou art free". Saturnus is a Danish band playing melodic death/doom metal. To me this song is about all the feeling of loss, sorrow and ancient days passed away, summed in just a few lines.SATURNUS - Thou Art Free

This is weird, there must be some decent tours... I may recommend you not to think only about these cities, but something like the Solovetsky Islands or the cities of the "Golden Ring", as well [link]

For some reason Finnish travel agencies seem to prefer very short tours. People who want to spend more time in the country might usually have visited there before and want to travel by their own, so there is not much demand for extended organized tours.
Thank you for the tips, anyway! I will check those out on the net. One place that I forgot to mention earlier is Valaam Island. I have wanted to travel to lake Ladoga ever since I saw it on the map as a child. And I would also like to see Lake Baikal, it seems a very fascinating place to me.
Russia is such a vast country, one could spend a lifetime just travelling around.
