Description Another depiction of my OC Branwen, my primary D&D player character. I've played this character, in various forms, for better than twenty years. This version is in the forgotten realms and is a cleric/fighter/magic user. of Eilstraee' I

forced myself not to rush this (I usually rush artwork) and used a lot more reference than I have on anything else I've done. I didn't go for total realism, but I wanted get less of a comic book feel than I the stuff I've been doing.

Not realism! No clue why I wrote that. Replace realism with detail.

You really gotta work on the shading of your characters. The shading is mucky, and you really need to beef it up to get some really poppin' work.

I really like the pose. It is dynamic and eyecatching. It demonstrates a dancers grace and elegance but also seems somehow plausable as a fighting technique if that makes any sense? I like the face and the expression. Overall I like the composition as well.

I know there a also a lot of things that I would have done very differently, like the shading and the background - but that is the fun in looking at other peoples stuff, isn't it?

Thanks for the review. As the name implies her fighting style is dance like, so your observation about her pose is gratifying.

I actually experimented with the background quite a bit, originally the sky was much darker, for instance. That's the cool thing about working in digital it easy to experiment.

The bad thing is that my cat likes to sit on the laptops keyboard and randomly change settings. Oh well...

That's a problem I usually have as well, rushing artwork. This turned out great, so I'd say not rushing it paid off. Did you paint this?

Andared In reply to TheInimitableECypher [2011-10-26 06:23:37 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the kind words. This is digital work done by using photoshop to color scanned, hand drawn, line art.

Wow. It looks painted. I keep forgetting that Photoshop can do that.

Thanks again. I use to paint traditionally and had to be dragged into working digitally. But once I started it about 3 years ago, I found that if you take your time and do some experimenting you can get the same kind of tonal and texture effects as you can with paints without taking up so much space and none of the mess or fume producing paint solvents.
