Description
Some warrior woman in action. I intended to paint a battle scene in the background, but just wanted to wrap it up and be finished with it. Photoshop with wacom tablet every odd hour over approx a week.Related content

She reminds me of Grace Jones when she starred in Conan the Barbary II

*stares for a good while* that's great. I always admire artists who can draw/paint people in motion and you obviously do it very well. I don't see any flaw in this I just want to know how you do that smooth nice coloring!

Wow! You all give me such nice comments and I really appreciate it! Colours can be a real arse, but I try to block in the colours very roughly at first with broad, hard strokes, and then smoothen them out with low pressure brushes. An important trick is to start out with a few dull colours for shadow, midtones and highlights to get the shape right, and then add reflections and deep shadows afterwards. If the highlight colours are blended out so much that they mix with the shadow colours, it all becomes very smudgy, so it's important to keep every tone clean, methinks.

yes. good way to do it... its really hard sometimes, especially to keep up consequently with how the light falls on the object *sigh*
thanks again

This is amazing. Your best work yet, in my opinion. Everything works on this one. Her pose is dynamic and eye-catching, with the perspective being just right and adding to the feel and motion of the piece as does the angled background. Her armor and sword are great and have the brightness in just the right places to give them a realism, but more than that to move the viewer's eyes around the picture. And the anatomy is right on. She looks strong and beautiful without looking too masculine.
The battle scene in the background might have worked great, but I like it like this. There is perhaps an implied battle going on, but there's a feeling that the battle that matters is the one that she is so intently advancing toward, focusing on. Makes me hope I'm peeking over her opponent's shoulder and that it isn't me she looking at.

Wow - that's a lot of nice comments and encouraging feedback, my friend! I truly appreciate it! I think one of my major challenges has been to think less anatomy and more how the body looks in reality, and it seems I'm about to overcome that now by gradually toning down the otherwise bulging muscels of my characters. I also wanted to go for a darker image in which the shining metal are points of focus, so I'm very happy that it seemed to work. Thanks a lot

Wow! Where do I start? I love, first of all, the contrast between the smoothness with which you painted the chartacter and the sketchiness of the background, which still looksvery polished and professional. You also did a fabulous job exaggerating the anatomy, but not to the point where it loses its believability and ceases to draw the viewer in. The colors, it perhaps goes without saying, are wonderful. You're an awesome artist, I'm going to check out the rest of your gallery now

Geez...so many great pieces of artwork today. I'm going to go cry in shame and burn all of my artwork. This is really good.

Wow, thanks! Don't burn your artworks or loose confidence in your own talents - every single one of us feels the same way every now and then, and that's what keeps us going forward. We have all been at that point where we just want to give up, but the passion for what we do brings us back again to improve ourselves and grow as artists.

very very true. I didn't say I was going to stop doing artwork. I don't think I could ever do that. If you stop there's no way to improve, right?
