wow I have to say I love the skin tones here... absolutely pro This is a very difficult position but I have no idea if something isn't right here. Im struggling with my own pic Im doing right now and of course the anatomy is the thing. oh well you managed to give a nice feel and lighting to the painting. It;'s very very good

Thanks a lot - I'm trying to brighten up my images to allow for more nuances and details, and feel that I'm entering uncharted territory by doing so I always prefer the darker values, so I'm happy my brighter ones are decent-looking too

Hi there!!! I have returned!

Hope you had a lovely christmas

I had to comment on this one because I am digging the pose and especially the soft pastelly palette here. Great details on the muscular back, and there's something sensual and dancer-like about her, even tho she's holding a weapon of DEATH.

How are you doing??

Christmas is, I must confess, a real pain in the butt - I'm just the kind of person that prefers to booze in a pub rather than jumping around the Christmas tree, and since we're far away from Christmas now, I guess I won't ruin the season spirit for anyone by saying so But I'm glad you like my piece - I'm experimenting with some new methods these days, so I'm happy it looks to be paying off.

Apart from that I'm not as often around here anymore as I should, and not as active artistically as I should either Having a kid takes up quite some time, but luckily, my day-time job is a no-brainer that allows me to do plenty of sketching when my creativity starts itching So I'm good Hope your fine too!

Just going to throw this in, sorry I'm late.

What I enjoy most about this painting is that it combines two things into one whole package. When ordinary people think of muscle, they automatically assume male but when they think of dancing they think of female.

The way the pose is conveyed makes it seem like this beauty is dancing on the rocks with a weapon in her hand, yet she obviously has a very strong physique in order to wield such a large weapon. So the "muscle" is no longer associated as male but rather female.

I think it's a beautiful combination of the two, a message that says that even a muscular woman can be as graceful as a hummingbird.

Wow - thanks for the very nice comment! Iv'e never really though of it as combining two very distinct features of male and female, but I think you have a good point I'm trying to work with my poses to make them believable and dynamic, yet pump up the muscels because I think they're cool And muscular women can ineed be graceful and feminine

Yup, that is a gorgeous pose, and I really like the character's build - a little less bulky than some, and it really suits her. Great skin tones as always

Thanks a lot! I liked the pose as well, that's why it became more than just a doodle I tried to make her smaller than my usual subjects, yet still muscular and able to kick ass, and think I managed the balance quite well. I'll try to go more for this kind of anatomy, as it combines both the beauty and the grittiness of styles that I enjoy so much myself

Some one commented that your style was similar to Vallejo. With Frazetta just celebrating his 80th birthday and seeing so much of his work and tribute works to him, this piece, done in your unique style, did bring his work to mind. I guess when your work is favorably compared with two of the fantasy masters you know you are doing something right. Very nice work. The anatomy couldn't be more spot on.

Thanks alot, mate! Although I don't think the comparisons to Vallejo and Frazetta are even remotely warranted, they're a big inspiration and encouragement to me. But best and most important of all is that talented artists such as yourself like what I do - that's really what keeps me going

>< Sensational! I love it!

Your art style is really cool, and I hope you don't feel offended if I say I see a similarity in your style and Boris Vallejo's.

I agree with you - I sometimes try to emulate the rough brushstrokes you sometimes find in real paintings, but most often it just ends up looking like a mess Thanks for pointing it out and for the nice feedback

arisuonpaa In reply to gmax [2008-03-26 07:01:51 +0000 UTC]

It's not that easy to emulate brush strokes digitally. I'm also struggling with that.

I love how detailed her body is, I think you could refine the spear a bit more to fit that refinement, and add some reflected color from her skin in the metal.
I love the colors you chose for the sky, very vallejo.

I like this!

So you say this is a "quick doodle" - any chance you'll use this as the basis for a more refined piece? (And I wish my "quick doodles" looked this good!)

Hey there - thanks! Well, it started out as a quick doodle, but what you see here is as finished as it gets It could still be improved, but my skills reach only so far. And BTW: I think your doodles rock!

The first thing I thought when I saw it was Vallejo! Hope you don't mind comparisons. The skin tones are really lovely in this, I'm glad you didn't give her too many clothes to get in the way of them!
Great anatomy as always. I really do think you've improved a lot. She looks really feminine even though she has so many muscles. I love that!

Any comparison to my heroes is truly welcomed - and I would give an arm and a leg to be skilled enough to make it warranted I'm constrantly coming back to the great masters as a main source of inspiration, so your feedback is again truly encouraging!

great work - just her head seems a bit tweaked?
But overall it reminds me to Vallejo's work

Thanks a lot, Rita! I find the face and head is really difficult to get right, especially in a position such as that, so it does look a bit tweaked, yes. But thanks for the nice comment and that Vallejo-reference Truly inspiring!
