Description This is one of my first pieces whose foundation sketch was a lot more complete than what I would previously have worked on. I did change the position of the front leg moments before completing it, though, but I still got a taste of what it's like to have nearly complete b/w sketch before actually starting to paint. It's indeed something I will do hereafter, not only because the painting itself becomes easier, but also because it leaves more room for experimentation at the early stages.

Photoshop with wacom every free minute over approx a week.

When I first saw this, my initial thoughts were 'Man, this guy is good!'. And full viewing just reinforced those thoughts. Your works are amazing and the pallet used on this really sets a great sense of mood. The misty background works well also.

The colour and drama and point of view in this pic are just fantastic! I really love how this one came out!

One thing stands out to me here - there's a contrast in tone between her upper and lower body; the upper is much more defined and muscly. Looks like she needs more butt, more prominent thigh muscles.

Aside from that though, damn! Looks fantastic!

You're right - the leg closest to the viewer was orginally in another position up to the very last stages, and I didn't work sufficiently on it to make it look more natural. But it's great that you like it still - thanks a bunch!

I love it! I'm really impressed. And yes, I agree, good lineart takes time but it makes painting so much easier.
The colours you've chosen are great for setting the mood. The woman is, as stated above, gorgeous. I can see why the guys like her, but as a female, I really enjoy the challenge you give the viewer with images like this. She's got muscles that would shame a male body-builder and yet, she's very, very sexy. I'm sure a lot of people who see your images will start to rethink what they define as 'feminine' and that's great. I think your vision is one of the most interesting and fun aspects of your art.
Her expression and the angle we're viewing her from just make this picture for me.
After a while, I found myself wondering why we were looking up at her. Are we on lower ground, or is she just turning round to say,
'I thought you were dead'?

Thanks a lot Sereda! I have indeed already heard that some people reconsider their idea of femininity after watching my stuff, and well - I don't know if that contributes to a better world, but it's kinda cool anyways I'm at least hoping that my pieces may compete with all those anorectic pop culture women for my daughter's attention when she grows up to be young woman herself - I want her to be able to kick some butt as I won't be around forever to do it for her

The perspective wasn't something I thought a great deal about, but it kinda gave itself concidering the motive. Looking upwards at someone usually strenghten their authoritative character and makes them a bit more intimidating

Allow me to start with disadvantages :
- I think her breast looks like being pressed down. You should make it vertically rounder.
- The sword blade is not straight. It looks like being bent, or did you bend it purposely ?
- You should also work more on the material of the sword to make it look more metal-shining. The whole sword looks a bit flat compared to the rest of the scene.
- The highlight edges on the wrinkling creature below look odd to me. They need to be blended more.
- As usual, I think the background as well as subordinate objects need more textures and details.

However...

I FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS LADY YA KNOW !!! Those back muscles you render are... WOW .
And the colours this time are amazing !!!

Keep up good work Thomas .

Hey Dan! Great comments as always:

- The breast bugged me too, but I haven't really figured out yet how to paint female breast more realistic. I guess I need to study my references better
- The sword is intentionally bent, like a scimitar of sorts.
- Noted - metal are such a pain in the butt sometimes
- Yeah, I usually blend such rim lights, but I'm trying to go for more loose brushwork, hence the rather sketchy lines. But it's great that you point it out
- I try not to make too many details in the background as this may distort the foreground focus, but there's always a fine line between sketchyness and unfinishedness. Thanks for reminding me

And for those last comments: Thanks a bunch!

Wow! I disagree with almost everything insane has said there, EXCEPT that I think this woman is utterly gorgeous. The musculature is inspiring - somewhat translucent. I like the reflected light up along the small of her back, it's very subtle and yet it makes the image pop so much more. The line of light on the edge of her chest/breast area makes her skin feel so supple and touchable. I think her breast is shaped fine, except that I think the nipple might be visible from this position. Breasts arent really round unless in bras...even on really muscled women, I think.

I could still go on and on about the colours tho. They give an interesting feel - a little soft and mysterious as opposed to the commanding type you would expect with such a figure. The contrast of sea green/blues an purples is so unusual it makes the image look like it's set on some somehow warm climated, alien world.

I think it's your style to have sketchy backgrounds, so personally I think this is great, and I'm not so sure you need to up the detail unless you want to push yourself in another direction artistically.

I can see the sword is supposed to be curved. It's badass, a little scimitar-like, and unique enough to fit the fantasy theme. I think it perhaps needs a touch of darkening because it still looks like it hasn't been coloured at least at the top part?

Working from graphite is awesome aye, especially if you have the time - I find when I work from sketches things do go a LOT smoother.

Wow - that was a lot of great, inspiring and constructive comments I tried a somewhat different colour palette this time, because I actually like greens and blues somewhat better than the reds and yellows one would usually use on humans. I made another image at first which sucked in all ways except the colours, which where the nicest I have ever produced, and it annoyed me so much that I had these gorgous colours on an otherwise shitty image, that I made this one using the same palette. The colours didn't nearly turn out as great as that other piece, but still it overall looks okay I think

And I should indeed work to texturise my backgrounds a bit more, but you're right that the genre I prefer usually have only vaguely defined backgrounds, so I'm content with the idea, if not always my performance

Thanks again for some truly great feedback - stuff like this keeps me going

Excellent piece my friend! I would like to see more buttocks on her, since she looks so muscular, but it is one of your best to date (hopefully not best ever, so you can keep awing us) and I love the pallete you used.
