Description [updated 01/13/02: the download file has a robot in it, preview pic as before]
[updated 05/09/08: download was broken, re-uploaded a 1600px version]

...i did this last year in october, but now its cold enough to look at.

Very similar to GlassOnTheDancefloor but this time i actually went for "photorealism" and made a texture, which is scanned nivea body lotion, the whole thing is 100% digital, and i didn't use photoreference or any help.

...and again i used brazil beta (free) 1.4 for the caustics effect...and if u say im copying myself, then u are right...

file @ 800 (different version with robot)

hey,
[link] <-- This is the kind of texture that is used (low opacity), of course a black/white texture. The bubbles were a bit more spaced out. I believe i explained my scanning technique in the description of that deviation. Also check --> [link]

amazing work.. the texture is aweomse.. although u can see lik a really pointy part in the corner towards the "camera angle".. but still.. another thing, the ice cube is too modified.. it think it suppose a bit "squarey". but still its well done!

wow........ this .... wow
not just that it looks real.... but its Beautiful
the shape of the cube alone is so unique and elegant....... the outline so smooth and curved....
and I how u paid attention to the 'shadow' of the icecube, how it is slightly illuminated by light playing through the frozen water, then becoming darker and darker around the edges

Absolutely INCREDIBLE! Implimenting the texture to the ice cube came out wonderfully! Although, It does kinda look like its melting in some ways, or melted somewhat and then frozen again, still, VERY good and hope to see the next big things from you

That is very well done!! I commend you for your original thinking on how to create this ice cube...hand lotion, who would have thunk it!?!?!?!

novispoon [2002-01-09 16:03:59 +0000 UTC]

Just unbelievable. I've never seen ice done so well. If it just had a puddle of water at the bottom, that'd complete the picture. Hand lotion -> ice. Don't know what you're smoking to have thought of that one, but please share .

And a glass of COKE please andi

yeah great, stuff. I'm not sure it's perfect though, i think a different angle would improve it because it looks almost symetrical. Also imagine what a lighter background would do for it?

If you set it on maybe a white background the details and shadows would show up better. I think it's worth trying!

Happy New Year..

Incredible work indeed ! The thumbnail is completely photorealistic and the download wasn't far off.

The modeling is very good (especially as you did it in a partially melted state), and texturing and rendering are equally good.

/me slaps myself to remember to try and install Brazil again.

Awesome stuff !
