I forgot to ask before, but how long did this take you? The details look stunning.

Took me waaayyy too long to finish! I attempted color before I decided on monochrome, and was about 10 hours in before I decided to switch, haha.
I think I probably spent about 15 hours total...give or take. I worked on it on and off.

i actually really like this in black and white! not that i wouldnt want to see it colored, of course, but i really like your black and white stuff because its so like...mystical and shit. even your little dog sketches have this fancy layer of blur magic that i really, really like! (i know my description of art terms is awesome dont laugh) ANYWAY i really enjoy the characterization of the tiger's face in particular! and the little monk is so great! i also really like the flow of the whole thing, and how i keep finding new little animals to see!

ah, thanks!
This piece was EXTRA DIFFICULT because of all those animals. It really improved my skill in values however, so I don't regret making it in black and white. c:
I think the magical blur you speak of is the Gaussian blur, which I still shamefully use on occasion when i'm too lazy add in textures. I think I only used it ONCE in this picture, and on something fairly insignificant. But! that tiger is definitely my favourite. And if I am to be honest, I really only finished this picture so I could put his beautiful face online haha. I am glad you like it! DRIVE TO SALEM AND HANG OUT WITH ME WOMAN.

Honestly, I would pay the price of a movie ticket to see something like this being painted, it would be a lot more interesting to me than most summer blockbusters out at the moment.

Oh man, that's quite the compliment. thanks! I probably would have paid to just see my face while trying to figure out the values of each animal...comedic gold I tell you.
And I'm inclined to agree about the movies...some I've seen previews for are pretty terrible.

Odd request, but I don't suppose you'd like to share the photoshop file? I'd love to have a close look and dissect it in detail.

Sorry, no can do! I'm flattered you'd like to look at my work in more detail, but i'm afraid giving out the PSD is too big a chance for me.

This is amazing... Reminds me of dreaming, one piece takes the centre stage while another moves in and replaces...
All so ethereal and surreal. Excellent work!

Thanks!!
I didn't have a solid concept when I sketched it out, but it took on a very "Everything is connected, all are one" kind of feel after finalizing the linework. I'm personally fascinated with Buddhist culture, so I could'nt help but put a little monk in there. c:
