Description

The Citadel class is an escort frigate tasked with defending Andic carrier groups. It is equipped to deal with anti-surface and anti-submarine targets, and also has a medium-range anti-air suite.

From front to back, the Citadel is armed with:
-57mm Autocannon CIWS, combined with short-range anti-missile missile launcher in a turret (equivalent to RAM's, pretty much);
-4 15.5mm HMG's in remote weapon stations/camera's/spotlights for close-in defence in brown-water operations
-Full-length VLS equipped with any combination of:
---Land-attack missiles
---Medium-range anti-air missiles
---Short-range anti-air missiles
---Anti-ship cruise missiles
---Decoys
-Fire suppression system
-4 torpedo tubes
-Helicopter landing pad + hangar
-Full-spectrum smoke launcher
-Chaff launcher
-Integrated sensor mast including, amongst other things, EO/IR sensors, tracking radars, medium-range search radar, short-band anti-submarine radar, signalling lights, and a periscope
-Short-length VLS equipped with only short-range anti-air missiles
-127mm naval gun

Unfortunately I drew this long enough ago that I do not remember everything that is on here.

The Andic Navy has few peers and is primarily aimed at defending its colonial assets by exerting air power abroad. It is expected that carriers will cross, but will rarely fight, in blue water operations. Green water or near-green-water operations, however, are the primary battleground and require significant defences against land-based fighter-bombers, missile boats, and ballistic missiles.

Complementary to the Citadel class are a yet unnamed class of dedicated anti-surface corvette and a yet unnamed class of anti-air destroyers. I envision that for the purpose of the protection of carrier groups, these would be deployed in a 4-2-1 ratio of corvettes, frigates and destroyers.

Uploading some older drawings (that I'm still proud of) again.

If I had to draw this again nowadays, I'd do a handful of things differently. Mainly, I'd expand the hangar of this ship to fit a larger class of helicopters, and follow up on a suggestion the kind AceLancelot made on Shipbucket years ago and lengthen the entire thing. The ship is the bare minimum size to carry a crew across blue water, let alone comfortably - a bit more in the stocks and crews quarters would help a lot.

I'm still very happy Blackbuck offered their weapons and sensors for this. I've always highly regarded Blackbuck's AU work and you can maybe see that, even without the stuff Blackbuck specifically drew, his work inspired me.
