Description
Busy DayLast week I was near the gorge called "Bärenschützklamm" - today I hiked through it. I wanted to take some nice shots from withing the gorge, but there were too many people on the stairs and I was walking like in a line of ants.
I passed the gorge rather quickly and frustrated by the crowds I climbed the nearest peak after the gorge. So there are only a few images from today - most of them taken outside the actual gorge - like this one.
I'll have to give it a try weekdays when there are less people visiting.

When I was traveling in the US Southwest that's how I felt a lot of the time especially in Death Valley and Yosemite, they are just very popular parks. On the morning I shot at Zabrieski Point I got there and there were about a dozen photographers including me lined up along this ridge shooting the exact same scene. It was a little discouraging to say the least. SO I know how you feel.

I fully understand that. Everyone of tries to get great and unique images - the "uniqueness" part becomes relative under such circumstances. Then you only can rely to your technical and post-processing skills.
While I often visit places that are somewhat crowded, I rarely find fellow photographers here in Austria - so we have an advantage here. In the gorge however, the problem wasn't the people alone, but the fact that you couldn't let them pass and had to go with the flow.

I'm not sure what you mean by "shadow recovery", Stephen ... I've applied a little fill light in Lightroom and brightened the area below the overhanging center rock just a tiny bit ... that's it.

...ok in that case its the fill light....what i meant was the shadowy areas seem a little unnaturally light .....

Hmm ... I can't see that the image is too bright in the dark areas ... I actually think it's pretty contrasty. Considering the camera can't capture the dark areas as bright as we see it - they might still be too dark. There was a lot of bounce light going on in that place - most from the water. Anyway - thanks for making me have a second, closer look at that.

Enjoying the 21mp? Have you considered getting a zeiss 18mm with the Nikon adapter?

I fear that's too expensive for me ... maybe one day when things look a bit better. For now I stick with my Olympus 21mm and my Canon 17-40mm. Just a compromise but affordable.

I checked it at bh this afternoon and I was shocked to see that it's $1200 U.S, which for me is the same as a new 17-40mm, plus about $300 for the 16:9 adapter and shipping to S.A.

Yeah ... the Zeiss wide-angles are pricy ... even the 21mm. From 25mm on they get a little cheaper, but still ...

but still...same price as a canon zoom and that zeiss is reputably the best dslr wide angle ever made.

Well the Zeiss 21mm costs 1900 Euros while the Canon EF 17-40mm costs me a mere 650 Euros. That's some difference. The Olympus Zuiko 21mm isn't as good as the Zeiss but better than my Canon and costs just 300 Euros. So while the Zeiss is undoubtedly the best lens at that focal length - it's just too expensive. Even more as I don't make any money from my shots and this would be a one-way-investment.
I'm planning to start LF-photography parallel to digital and there I have even better lenses than the Zeiss for a much smaller price anyway.

How much is the 18mm in Europe? Our neighbour is Dutch and he goes back every month so I could ask him to get me one

New I can only find the Zeiss Distagon 18mm in the ZM, ZF and ZK version. They are all about 1150 Euros. Looks like the Distagon 18mm is pretty reasonable from some Hong Kong dealers. On Ebay there are some below 600 Euros (the Contax versions).
