I really enjoy your panoramas. Great work Andreas. The colors, the dynamic range, everything and how natural it is gives me something to strive for. Thanks.

superb pano and I love how realistic the colors look. I'm just so pleased that I have a decent new monitor to view them on because my older one blows the highlights out. Again, terrific colors. I hope someday to make it over in your neck of the woods.

Thanks, Jacob - and yeah, a good and calibrated monitor is really a great thing to have.

Totally right. Between watching the mini series band of brothers and looking at all of you austria photos, I just really want to come to Austria and do a bunch of hiking. What is the average height above sea level you do most of your shooting at? Or does it vary that much?

AndreasResch In reply to Jacob-Routzahn [2010-12-23 19:53:32 +0000 UTC]
I'd say the typical height is between 1500 and 2500 meters above sea level.

Oh wow. So what is the base of the Matterhorn (sp) at?

AndreasResch In reply to Jacob-Routzahn [2010-12-24 08:08:39 +0000 UTC]
The Matterhorn is in Switzerland - the lakes around it are at about 2500 to 2800m.

Really? I don't know why but I just thought that most of the terrain was much higher than that. What are some of the highest areas you've shot at?

AndreasResch In reply to Jacob-Routzahn [2011-01-02 08:23:34 +0000 UTC]
So far the highest place I've been was around the Matterhorn. The peaks there are over 4000m and the places we have visited are around 3100m.

So did you summit it? If so, that looks like a gnarly climb to the top. I have always thought that that area was so much higher. Still, super beautiful and you do a great job of depicting realistic slices of time from what you saw that day. That is what I like about your work. I try and do that too, it's just a work in progress still

AndreasResch In reply to Jacob-Routzahn [2011-01-03 07:32:36 +0000 UTC]
No ... I didn't climb it. When I'm out with my photo gear I'm carrying too much weight to climb the higher peaks. I always have to decide beforehand if it's a photo trip or a climbing trip - both together are hard to combine.

Jacob-Routzahn In reply to AndreasResch [2011-01-04 02:50:23 +0000 UTC]
And hard to decide between. I did a trip up to 14,261 ft. with my camera gear and it wasn't bad at the bottom, the top though....that was a different story. When I reached the top I took three naps lol I was pretty tuckered out.

Yeah ... a backpack full of camera gear plus other stuff is quite something to carry. I learned this the hard way as well.

Jacob-Routzahn In reply to AndreasResch [2011-01-11 04:26:26 +0000 UTC]
Ha! So when you do climb, do you select different gear, or just less?

AndreasResch In reply to Jacob-Routzahn [2011-01-11 07:41:14 +0000 UTC]
Well - I'm not a "climber" in the wild sense like hanging in rock walls with ropes and stuff. But I like to hike up steeper mountains as well and there it's all about hanging both hands free and as little weight with you as possible. In that case I might just take basic weather protection, food and water with me. At the moment this happens very rarely though as I just don't want to miss photographic opportunities by leaving my camera gear at home

Dude, I totally understand. I really can't head out with at least my wide angle and my 70-200. And the tripod.
