Description
It's been awhile since I shared any artwork, so I thought I'd submit this piece I sketched together last month. I'm a tremendous fan of myth and folklore and, even, after years of reading books, watching movies, etc., I realize even now that I'm barely scratching the surface of all the wonderful subjects and stories that are out there. This is the Gwishin from Korea. They are the spirits of the dead who still carry ties with the living, either for revenge or remaining to protect a loved one. They remain in the living world until they've completed their task and can finally rest. They are described in Wikipedia as transparent, legless, and floating in midair. Female Gwishin, known as Cheonyeogwishin, are usually clad in a white Hanbok worn at funerals. They have long, drooping black hair and sometimes are faceless, depending on their personality.
Created using 2b mechanical and traditional pencils on 9"x12" sketch paper.
