Description I was bored, and I was inspired by to do some Aladdin sketches. This one features the Genie, but enough small talk! I had a lot of fun doing these and am ready to do more!

Reminds me of Gerald Scarfe's style a bit.

Interesting you say that. Aladdin's directors went on to direct Hercules- the drawing and animation style for the latter film was based on Gerald Scarfe's style.

Maybe it's because he was the one who designed the characters for that one.

Man, you got the Genie so perfectly. The TV head one is downright inspired. I don't really get the connection with some of those other characters, but they're all great caricatures. You remind me, after such a long time, of how good that movie actually was. Must go see it again!

andrewk In reply to msclark [2005-01-17 16:14:55 +0000 UTC]

I never did anything after the style of Al Hirschfeld, if that's what you mean. I did do a few caricatures a while ago.

Aladdin's my favorite Disney movie. I love the Bob Dylan genie, seems like something that could have actually surfaced in the movie. Same with the Einstein one, and actually I vaguley remember there being an Einstein genie in a series of public service announcements by Genie called "Great minds think for themselves."

andrewk In reply to sweed84 [2005-01-17 03:38:59 +0000 UTC]

I remember those. I saw a few of them, they were all really good crashcourses!

Although they weren't animated by Eric Goldberg. On the new Aladdin DVD (which is all right), there's a Genie public service announcement that he does for the Make A Wish Foundation (fitting). Eric Goldberg went back to the Disney Studios briefly to animate 15 seconds of the Genie after over 10 years!

Mr.
Aladdin Sir
Have a wish or two or three...

You know, it's not widely known, but the original version of Aladdin was set in China.
... Well, forget it- Disney's version was cool nonetheless, even though they didn't set it in China- we can forgive them.
