Question from my friend - are there any preserved SPL Steamers?

The SP&L, like the Pennsylvania Railroad preserved at least one of each type of locomotive and kept them at their roundhouse and shops in Jersey Shore, PA. The series of 4-4-0s built when the railroad was formed and named after important towns along the line were preserved in their name sake towns prior to WW2, but some were scraped to help the war effort. The modern SP&L maintains most of it's vintage collection in a similar fashion to the Union Pacific.

Would you mind if I drew some of these locomotives? I really like their style!

Before I draw them, what was the primary source of income for the SPL?

The SP&L was originally focused on hauling coal and other minerals. The many large forests in northern PA also supplies lots of timber traffic. The other main focus is on agricultural products and through fright trains as the route from Pittsburgh and Toledo Ohio to Scranton (final destination New York City) was a much shorter distance.

With Northerns, Texases, and Mountains, and Twelve-Wheelers, what are the Baldwin Sharks for? I can understand the GP7 since it's a road switcher, but what jobs do Cab-units do with plenty of big steam power already? Are they bankers like the Centipedes got demoted to on the Pennsy?
Sorry about the amount of questions. My mind works rapidly at times.

The sharks were some of the first road diesels bought in large numbers by the SP&L partially due to their unique style. They were used in fast freight on the Lyons (Fallbrook Division) and as bankers on the Pittsburgh division. As problems grew with the units they were replaced by more common second hand locomotives from the Pennsy and New York Central

They were used mostly on branch line freight and mixed trains, much like that of theΒ N&W Abingdon branch.

Would some go to Scranton?

They could on rare occasions, but not very often.
