Description
This is an older piece I have re-worked and added the abstract effect. I feel the piece has a lot more vitality now that the characters identity is hidden. Ideally at the time I created this piece in 2010 I wanted to depict someone without identity (just a consumer for McDonalds idea). However with this effect I have captured the ambiance of the McDonalds 'arena' I wanted originally back in 2010.. I am happy with it nowI am looking at the contrast between hyper-realism and complete abstract forms. The way the mind obtains visual information with faultless obedience at the same time can throw it into ignorance with the minds eye.
The subconscious vs the conscious on an intuitive level of the mind, to see a complete picture without incomprehension is unrealistic.
The aesthetic of my new work looks at the hand in hand projection of the minds thought process combined with the visualization gathered from the eye alone.

jajaja, at my first glance I thought "wtf is just a bad cellphone photo with some stains on it Β‘this doesn't belong in DA! wait, no... omg is a painting... woooow"
.
i wonder if you made the color mix on the painting or if you are painting over another painting

I don't know which is cooler, the fact that it took me the longest time to realize this was a painting, not a photograph (holy crap! that's crazy good! Mind Blown!!) or that McDonalds has Aero McFlurries! Yum!!

When I first saw the thumbnail, I thought this was just a photograph. Then I saw the "Bacon"esque distortion of the face and realized this was a painting. Then I wondered if that was actually ketchup smeared all over. Then I questioned people's relationship to consumer goods and individual identity. Surrounded by so much mass produced signs and products, I long for a human connection. This is more pronounced once I am denied this satisfaction. A very successful painting.

For a good while I thought someone vomited on you or you smeared something gross over a photo. Then I realized it was a painting. Amazing work man. I like how the smear was planned to show your self confidence. You knew this painting would look amazingly photo realistic so you deliberately planned to put that smear to throw off the viewer. Again, amazing work. This piece will be favorited for sure.

If you wanted to really cover the identity of this person, I would suggest covering the face entirely (all but the ears) with these blotches of paint because I'm still able to somewhat identify the subject. From my observation I can tell this man is an Asian, perhaps Chinese, so it seems. As it is now it couldn't be seen as just a McDonalds customer since the hairstyle and physique of the face does not meet that 'just any McDonalds customer' quality you were going for.
Despite that it's an interesting picture nonetheless.

I didn't want to be so vehement in my approach to covering his face that directly. I want it to feel and act random like an outside source is invading the canvas. That is the reason why the spillage pursues down his jumper and into an unknown background space. It is supposed to avoid direct identity but at the same time not devoid from spontaneity and just make it look like I covered his face on purpose. It has to look like a accident and I feel I achieved this with this image.
Thanks for your comments

The looking like an accident bit was not explained in your Artist's comment, which lead me to believe as stated in my previous comment, you were going for a more 'just any McDonalds' customer quality. Since you cleared this up it makes more sense now so I would say, yes, you achieved what you were going for.

this is awesome, maybe 'awesome' doesn't do justice actually,, it's a piece of art that bonds together two totally deferent norms, realism and abstract , to support the great theme of the painting: glossy mass production in relation to loose identity. My congratulations for the DD truly deserved!

As for whatever it is that's covering his face, it kinda looks just a litttllleee like someone got angry & threw a burger in his face... Or maybe a soda.. Not quite sure what exactly you were going for there, but other than that I really like this
