Description
This is my second attempt at a matte painting. It actually started off all medieval with castles but I got bored and jumped a few thousand years into the future. Anyway I'm still learning and enjoying this particular form of digital artPhoto elements are from myself and cgtextures.com
Thanks for looking

There's something kind of '70's about this...a James Blish novel perhaps, illustrated by Chris Foss. Whatever...it's the sort of painting to set the imagination off, filling in the story....very nice.

Just googled both those names ( I'm ashamed to say I wasn't aware of them ) and I can see what you mean! Cheers Dave

Your welcome...and you should check out Foss more closely, I'm sure you'd get a lot from his work. He dominated SF illustration in the 70's but has kinda slipped into obscurity now...shame.

Just looking on Google alone I see his work is fantastic! I used to love that sort of sci-fi paperback artwork

I grew up with those type of garish covers....it's exactly what i wanted to do. It's a shame they have gone out of fashion, covers today are very dull, too serious and somewhat up their own asses!

I had a poster in a frame on my bedroom wall when I was a very small kid from Rodney Matthews ( or was it Roger Dean? ) depicting trolls on giant wasps about to attack other trolls on a mountain. It was my dads, but I was fascinated by it. If I could ever get a print of that again I would.

I know that picture well (and it is Matthews) I can remember seeing it along with Deans work and many others on the walls of Our Price Records and Athena....lol....damn I'm old!!! There was one poster that fascinated me as a kid, a sort of SF thing with all these instruments depicted as kind of playing themselves....like musician droids or something....like the Dean and Matthews stuff it was all beyond my meagre pocket money but the image and desire stayed with me into adulthood. Some years ago now I bought the cd; Strange New Flesh by Colosseum just to get that picture...it was actually quite disappointing (as was the music) and didn't live up to my wild childhood memory of it!

The background is stunning. I like the fact that to me it appears as if these "homes" or buildings could, at moment's notice, become a ship and be in space instantly. Well done!
(And I am using the "Approval" emoticon just to be ornery! If that isn't the most annoying thing...like you actually would want my "approval" and would want it expressed by a picture of me patting your head!!! They need to change that thing-but until they do, well, )

Thank you Aurora. That is actually something I was thinking as I was doing them! It wasn't intentional but the ended up that way

This looks so realistic!
The stocks go together very well and those buildings fit in there perfectly ... and still they look contrary in some way.
