I remember the first time I blew up a moonpie. It happened at school.
It was so bad, the teachers made me clean the microwave.

I actually tried microwaving a peep on a moon pie before I did this strip, juuust to see what would happen.
It wasn't as exciting as you'd think. The peeps pretty much explode before the moon pies do much of anything.

Don't set it for very long (seriously, 15-30 seconds can be too much.) Set them on a fairly wide plate and just be ready to turn it off if it looks like it'll get out of hand.
They don't really explode in the typical sense of the word. They swell up until they kinda rip and deflate.

Traditionally with peeps jousting you give them each an upward-angled toothpick and the first one to hit the opponent with his "sword" is the winner. Exploding is usually pretty equal all around.
