Also, three of those Pokémon might exist only in legends. And five are literally extinct.

Funny thing: I was JUST watching my old FireRed walkthrough videos, and one of them was the one where I beat Giovanni for the first time and get the Silph Scope - the very scene seen in this comic! 
PS. In case "three" refers to Mewtwo and the fossil Pokémon, you should've said six, since remember, the fossils have evolutions, and there is also Aerodactyl.

No it refers to Ghastly line i think. Plus if you only count the base evos and you count only the first 3 gens, there's like 194 Pokès, i'm counting the fossils and non-"one of a kind" legendaries, but i'm not counting artificial lines such as Porygon or Castform.

Yeah, the "Pokémon cataloging" as a whole doesn't really make sense. They lived with and researched on them for at least hundred of years. Why are they SILL cataloging them?
And then you find out the Pokémon universe as a whole doesn't make a lick of sense...
